#Macrofauna
In case you didn't know: in soil ecology, earthworms count as "macrofauna", while moles are "megafauna"🤓
November 7, 2025 at 8:23 AM
Sure. There are four common levels:
Megafauna (>20 mm): moles etc.
Macrofauna (2–20 mm): e.g. earthworms
Mesofauna (0.2–2 mm): basically, whatever you can just see (e.g. mites or springtails)
Microfauna (<0.2 mm): even smaller organisms, e.g. ciliates or many nematodes

Marine animals play a key role in locking carbon deep in the ocean, slowing climate change. This study finds that fishing has already cut this service in half, with climate change expected to further ...

Even though I don't know them, I feel like I know them! Such distinctive dorsal fins and patches. Thanks for sharing!
We study the same in our fish/reservation in #Leiden, NL.

“…we demonstrate that mobile organisms, including megafauna and macrofauna, are living in the most disturbed areas. As far as we can measure them, sediment and nodule macrofauna densities and microbial biomass are similar in and out of disturbed areas."

I’ve never met 1 w/ the spine to say that insects should be defended.

Their arguments usually address the deleterious effects of pesticides on macrofauna.

Also I’ve never met a vegan w/ the conviction to hold their educational protests outside of exterminators’ businesses.
