#MKSAP
reason I hate #MKSAP #oncology questions - am I ever going to personally prescribe imatinib as adjuvant therapy for a gastrointestinal stromal tumor? NOPE. These questions are to test oncologists, not general internists.
All I need to know is side effects of the meds, not which tumors to use them in

studying for MKSAP / ABIM is insane why didnt i study this beforehand

I’m doing the 10 year. Since this is my 2nd recert it’s just sort of the situation I’m used to. I’ve traditionally bought each new MKSAP edition each time it’s dropped & read through it / done all the questions so I don’t get too behind during the intervening decade, though…

One of the unexpected benefits of the general chaos and disorder in the world is that studying for my board recert is suddenly a very soothing, calming activity, like knitting or gardening… Brain overheating? Read the MKSAP to yourself for a little while. At least medicine makes sense.

Disappointed to have learned that the JC virus that causes progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy was named after a patient named John Cunningham (in whose brain tissue the virus was first isolated) and NOT Jesus Christ.

Thanks for ruining it, MKSAP.

Maybe the only tiny silver lining of Trump turning everything to shit when I'm due for my 10 year recertifications is hiding away in MKSAP is a preferable way to spend my time 😂😭 (I'd be way less motivated if we were in the good place, I'd be frolicking and traveling)

My MKSAP board review audiobook is so funny bc it has 2 endocrinologists for the Endo section, and one of the endocrinologists has to basically pretend that she’s kinda dim, since the thing is structured in a Q&A format…

nah, an old version of MKSAP I'm working through from #ACP - less evil lol

Really MKSAP? managing acute CHF in a pt w/ rheumatic fever induced mitral stenosis, a-fib and 30-wks pregnant is fair for gen internist?

MKSAP clearing the questions I’ve answered was not on my bingo card 😭

Why college is only 4 yrs (from MKSAP):

8-21 drinks/day for at least 5 years before abnormalities in cardiac structure and function occur

Well on the bright side, I am due to recertify both my #InternalMedicine and #Geriatrics boards the next 2 years, no bigger incentive to study MKSAP every day than living under Great Depression 2.0 martial law Hunger Games peacekeepers I guess 🤦🏻‍♀️

MKSAP online is the reason they invented the iPad. Awesome experience. Can't imagine studying any other way. http://yfrog.com/mfu2cwj

Oh man, my IM teachers in med school had us doing MKSAP along w the residents during my sub-I. I felt like such a dunce at first, but then when I went to my M4 rotations, everyone was like "oh shit you know a lot." like bro, I was forced into this 🤣

#NoonConference: MKSAP and Mingle! Do some board questions and catch up with peers.

I agree with everyone. We also take an individualized approach and we have an APD with expertise in this area. In addition to knowledge gaps, they address test taking strategies, test anxiety, and other important factors. We provide all residents with MKSAP for 2 years as well.

Finally DONE with 420 #VirtualDx questions in #MKSAP 19 (20% of the total question bank, which I intend to complete before it expires Aug 31, 2026 😬) - taking rest of night off and getting a drink 😂
[especially painful cuz my last section, General #InternalMedicine, was all #derm, and I loathe derm)

If anyone’s studying for IM boards and has CME $$ to use, I highly recommend the Oakstone MKSAP companion. I’ve traditionally read the MKSAP each time a new edition has dropped, but I’m making much better time going through the material now that I’m listening to it on the drive into work.

I did a MKSAP question about weight loss and the person tried naltrexone-bupropion and phentermine-topiramate and it wanted me to say the next step was sleeve gastrectomy

I wonder if that’s wrong nowadays with the GLP-1s

At my hospital correct management always starts with a card cath and ends with an EGD. Not so much in MKSAP. Confused.

All internal medicine residents passed their boards this year!

Thanks to us getting individual subscriptions to mksap and uworld.

(And a great program director)
