Another housing bill, adjacent to the Family Zoning Plan: #16, from @myrnamelgard7.bsky.social, gives builders incentives to create more rent-control units outside the city's so-called Priority Equity Geographies, ie, these rules would only apply in SF's richer neighborhoods.

It passes 10-0.

We are targeting people of a demographic that can demonstrate living across geographies to support the value of the single market that makes this possible.

That includes people who work across borders and have more than one home base, perhaps with family that lives in different countries.

Where I disagree with the report is smugglers being only small actors; this is the case in some geographies, but when talking about transcontinental trips, the smuggling ecosystem is larger, though they are loosely organised groups. -Matt Herbert

New Book!

Dr. Bethan Fisk's "Black Catholic Worlds: Religious Geographies of Eighteenth-Century Afro-Colombia" 'illustrates how geographies and mobilities...were at the heart of the formation and circulation of religious cultures by people of African descent.'

Congratulations, I enjoyed it!

Quickest route for an enlarged SCOTUS is to avoid confirmation hearings by promoting all 179 Appeals Court Judges to SCOTUS Justices in a single congressional act.

Cases held by random panel of 13 (one from each Circuit - though Circuit geographies and sizes should also be reformed).

This is commonsense. We will “protect our homeland and our access to key geographies throughout the region. We will deny non-Hemispheric competitors the ability to position forces or other threatening capabilities, or to own or control strategically vital assets, in our Hemisphere.”

Perhaps their might be a difrence in geographies for the two that increases the vulnerability of one vs the others? Perhaps this difference has driven an entire service’s modernization effort to take advantage of this dissimilarity?
I’d have to look at the comments to see the reaction and I (and many others) have hemmed and hawed about the NYT editorial but it’s just a dogshit piece written by people who clearly have no idea what they’re talking about and is just a massive disservice to their readers
I've given the NYT military innovation piece a read.

If China were to invade Taiwan, "our adversaries" would use the same "expensive, vulnerable weapons:" aircraft carriers, fighters, amphibious warfare ships, and armored vehicles.

there has been contagion of this bad idea across geographies in the UK, US, and EU countries justified as "levelling the playing field"

well excuse me, it costs more than it brings in revenues (what the hell does one think de minimis means) and only serves the purpose of broad and general misery

being displaced was horrible but seeing the commonalities (and differences) between very different geographies is a gift I do not underestimate — and most people & orgs are highly individualistic in their ways (it’s just framed differently) so don’t value the city/rural thinking but also alright
