Honestly, the first I knew of the online grift version was the R*cky G*rvais ads on the tube, which riff on that trope. Like when you blunder into a show where a stand-up has an accepted set of references their audience accepts, but you don’t know, so they just appear confusing, rather than unfunny.

When I got it, the G-76 was missing a 6CM6 tube, audio driver for the 6DQ6 modulators. I was close to broke when I was in high school. So I rummaged through my small tube collection and came up with a 6AQ5A with close specs. The pins didn't match so this is what I did. Scary but it worked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a cute story! A student of mine (mostly non-verbal) recently had g-tube surgery because he wasn't getting enough nutrition (common with autism). Yesterday he held up a mirror to his tummy then said "and just like that! A new belly button is born!" 😅 I died laughing
