Gaius finding out his bosses and the shadowy immortals manipulating their actions actively want to destroy the world: sorry. unfollowed. I was in it for the imperial expansionism and colonial hegemony. didn’t realize there were ascians involved.

It's time to let go of the extremely pernicious and extremely delusional view that Ru is a security maximizer driven by worries about its own security. It's driven entirely by imperialist expansionism. They say it every day, their actions demonstrate it every day.
Anyone complaining about European rearmament as escalatory simply doesn’t understand Ru. Ru invades the unarmed and the neutral (Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine). It hasn’t dared invade a NATO member, no matter how small. If Ru does attack NATO, it will be because it perceives its members as unprepared.

"the lack of preoccupation with Russian expansionism in the administration’s security circles suggests something truly radical that Trump and his advisors haven’t had the courage or candor yet to pronounce clearly.” @hofrench.bsky.social
Trump’s National Security Strategy Is a Blueprint for the Demise of the West
The White House’s agenda may not be coherent, but it is deeply dangerous.

What history can learn us, is that Russia always have had a need to expand. When they had conquered all the way east to the Pacific, they cast their eyes on south and southwest.

Always claiming they needed protection from an enemy, real or imaginary. Mostly true because of their expansionism.
Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz has compared Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler, warning that the Kremlin leader’s ambitions won’t stop with Ukraine.
Merz compares Putin to Hitler: ‘He won’t stop’
“Just as the Sudetenland was not enough in 1938, Putin will not stop,” Merz told a party conference in Germany.

Like, even the most dissident exile refuses to countenance the notion of Russia not being a hegemon "entitled" to some kind of deference by default.

So much of the culture is still in thrall to the Imperialist expansionism of Muscovy, nearly three centuries later

I think Russia aggression towards Ukraine is exactly why Finland belongs in NATO.

Finland 🇫🇮 has 0 interest in expansionism. After the annexation of Crimea by Russia they wanted more. If Ukraine fell without contests. They will keep going.

"Trump has interfered in foreign affairs in many ways. He has ordered the bombing of Iran & is preparing for an attack on Venezuela .. he has expressed a desire for territorial expansionism through annexation of Canada/Greenland. One thing is very clear: Trump is in no sense a 'noninterventionist.'"
Trump’s foreign policy isn’t “noninterventionism,” it is a kind of neo neo conservatism devoted to imposing authoritarian ethnonationalism abroad instead of democracy (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Ways earth science has been political:
-Studying climate of the American West brought the concept of Manifest Destiny into question and challenged notions of American expansionism in the 19th century.
-The discovery of Geological Time upended the Biblical timeline
Studying the earth is political. It always has been and it always will be. The difference is that there is now a political party made up of people whose worldviews are threatened by the very existence of a scientific process.
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

Canada, by way of it's vast natural resources and democratic values has the potential to defeat fascism taking hold south of it's border and helping Europe defeat Russian expansionism thru peaceful means.

Of course I do. What a silly question.

Communism and Capitalism are far more imperialistic than Fascism. Fully 90% of the World's expansionism has been generated by non-Fascist nations. Unless you count Rome and Sparta, but that's going back pretty far.

Equal rights for all, of course. Obvious.

According to British arguments, the Ottoman's expansionism that was an attempt to stabilize their economy led to them taking over Afghanistan cutting off Opium Poppy exports for medicine.

However, Britain strangely invaded regions rich in petroleum instead.

We've a number of similarly shouty "NATO expansionism poked the bear" gobshites here in Ireland. Geopolitics seems to hit differently in an insular island nation 😒

HERE is why Post-Truth, Russian sponsored, Putin ass-kissing Trump has for years falsely claimed that his honorable, patriotic Democratic opponents would lead us to WW3 - because he KNEW that Putin's plan for him to disband NATO, divide Europe, for Putin's EXPANSIONISM/IMPERIALISM COULD LEAD TO WW3!

USA's military strength had more to do with NATO and the Western Alliance which stopped Russians and Fascists' imperialism/expansionism since WW2. Drunkard Hegseth is too daft to know that he and DJT killing NATO is a massive threat to USA Security TOO. This is why you don't put fools in high power.
The essence of Hegseth's talk: the US will establish itself as the unwelcome hegemon of the Americas, while abandoning its footing and alliances in Europe and Asia. Because that's the bargain Trump wants to strike with Putin and Xi, apparently. www.ft.com/content/720b...

More and more it becomes obvious that support for Ukraine is largely based on old Cold War propaganda and/or chest-thumping western imperialist expansionism rather than an actual concern for the well-being of innocents and their independence.

The fascist goal of military expansionism is fundamentally at odds with its urge to define large segments of the residential population out of citizenship (and thus military service duties)

First under Roman Paganism, then Christianity, now Capitalism. The Legacy of the West as viewed through the lens of Empire is an unbroken chain of expansionism and theft, austerity and cruelty, atrocity and war - that flattens history, culture, and reality itself.

Putin’s putting pressure on Trump to convince Zelensky to capitulate, so the Putin can Russify all of Ukraine. The only way Russia can survive in the 21st century is through expansionism, so they can extract more resources. They produce next to nothing except war, disinformation and weapons.

craziest i've ever seen is a wikipedia article citing a german professor that seemed to exist as an apologia for Neoassyrian expansionism into Cyprus (c. 709BCE) but that might be crossed wires and I didn't actually enter pvp

PUTIN, THEIR GLOBAL CRIME BOSS, doesn't care what replaces USA Gov., so long as it's gone in it's current form; which, via NATO/UN, and U.S geopolitical power/vast trade alliances, kept Putin's global criminal cabal, Imperialism/Expansionism, extortion in check; reducing Putin's wealth to only $60B.

IMPERIALISM, expansionism, natural resources, geopolitical control of logistically important hub; all to "own the Libs" of the Western Alliance & NATO, which used to include USA until Putin installed his illegitimate extorted puppet traitor Trump - a Russian asset/useful idiot since the 1980's/90's.
