#Downshifting
😆 TOO many screens and no buttons anymore

And listen, call me an old man, grandpa even, but <EYE> do not like these touch button transmissions

I like downshifting when I need to.
I just dropped my car off for repairs and got a loaner. I drive a 2016 they gave me a 2026. I don’t know how anything works. They may as well have given me a spaceship.

My OpEd about Ayotte's State of the State speech: Gaslighting the Granite State

She takes credit for the work of others while killing critical programs and downshifting costs and blame.

Kelly Ayotte is gaslighting the Granite State: Miller
New Hampshire must reject Gov. Kelly Ayotte's continued cuts from the top and downshifting of costs to municipalities, writes Dover Rep. Seth Miller.

The downshifting of grocery quality purchases is a meaningful sedative to food inflation
February 15, 2026 at 11:56 PM
Well people are just generally not economically or statistically literate. I think it’s dialed up to 11 after a period of high inflation. But tbh I’ve personally done much better over this period on a medium col income, by downshifting my spending a bit.

”Tid med familjen. Downshifting. Hållbarhet. Samhällskritik (ej PK). Flyttat till Åland,” lyder beskrivningen på en populär Instagram-profil som drivs av en medialt uppmärksammad hemmafru.

Very good point.
Less porpoising may be the only improvement…

I’m also starting to worrying about the penalties: was he brake checking or just downshifting aggressively?
February 14, 2026 at 4:24 PM
ok, after 5 years i’m starting to think that suddenly downshifting from 20+ years of 5+ days a week of dealing with strangers for 10+ hours a day to only ever talking to one friendly person in person maybe affected me more psychologically than i gave it credit for. to be fair, a lot’s been going on.

A few things that jump out about #F1 2026 after 3 days:

- Different driving techniques with energy management + turbo lag
- Oversteer more common due to instant torque from MGU-K
- Mercedes/Audi use a lot of revs downshifting compared to other teams
- Starts will be harder: takes 10s to spool turbo

Have seen that on old race cars before. Think it's basically to make the pedal accessible wherever your foot is in relation to it, especially when heel-toe downshifting. Think it's bottom-hinged in the 190, so you can kinda make the pedal as big as you like and not have clearance issues at extension

Way down upon Seminole Square
belly of the river tide
call for me and I will be there
for the price of a taxi ride
Night double-clutches into today
like a truck downshifting its load
Way down, down along Lazy River Road

Bent shift forks is probably user error - downshifting without clutch or aggressively stomping the shifter is a popular way to bend them. Or dropping the bike on the shifter. Or all of that. 😜

But rebuild engine? Mechanic has a boat payment due?

so much unimportant bullshit in the way of what really matters in life which is downshifting into a life of indulgence through gaining and smoking weed and bating my big greasy daddy gooner dong and being in my GODBLOB headspace forever 💚

I went to an F1 race in Montreal sometime in the late 90s. We stood near the hairpin. The screams of the engines and the bangs of downshifting gears put me into a daze of sorts. They were so fast, I couldn’t really see the markings on the cars, just a blur of colour. Incredible experience tho’.

Same thing in New Hampshire, but it is the State government slashing funding for critical services (and ignoring the Supreme Court's ruling to that effect) and downshifting the shitshow to municipalities.

#NHPolitics
Your council tax going up and your council services getting worse is not your local council's fault. Central government funding has been slashed so their overall money has plummeted. They're just offloading the outrage on to local officials.

by the way the automatic transmission's downshifting in Driving Emotion Type-S is like. actively hostile to you fucking up. like it won't downshift more than 1 gear every second so if you clobber a wall and lose all speed it's just like ... Suffer
Alright there we go

Anyway tip #2: The car is like me and very bad at context switching. Do one of gas, brake, or turn, and give it a looooong wait between tasks

Looks beautiful 😍

I've done the drive up the peak a couple times, and the downshifting coming down
February 5, 2026 at 8:27 PM
Cue this morning, he texts me that he's started having transmission issues on his way to work. Rough, jerky gear changes under load, weird noises when downshifting going up a hill... He dropped it at his mechanic but y'all I'm not too optimistic this time around.

❝Skilled rest is downshifting without shutting down.

It’s the ability to reduce unnecessary tension and attention when the situation doesn’t require it.
