If words could kill what has Trump done to American Democracy. Where does American freedom stand in the world today?

Trump’s —division, cynicism, and undermined trust—have deeply injured the foundations of American greatness and democracy, forcing hard questions about where freedom stands

You must read this. Like it or not, this is where politics, government, and humanity are heading. There’s no time for fearing it. We need to invent the guardrails we’ll need. Quickly.

On Dec. 20, 1989, the U.S. military launched “Operation Just Cause” in Panama. The target: dictator, drug trafficker, and former CIA informant Manuel Noriega.

Citing the protection of U.S. citizens living in Panama, the lack of democracy, illegal drug flows, the George H.W. Bush administration...
Invading Panama and deposing Noriega in 1989 was easy, right?
Comparisons to potential action in Venezuela fall apart and furthermore, we took the wrong lessons from 35 years ago anyway

Thank you and your team for working so hard for Democracy. There are situations where a person must be able to vote by mail or they won't get to vote. Ex: they are called up with the National Guard or deployed/stationed overseas. They are in the hospital. They are away from home for their job . . .

The Heritage Foundation has been exporting a far‑right playbook across Europe — fueling nationalism, undermining rights and democracy. These networks should be investigated and banned if they threaten EU values. Time to hold them accountable.

He left Louisiana when he was 18 to go to Korea. He risked his life for people he didn’t know. He fought for Democracy in a foreign country. Would you do the same?

Zohran Mamdani is reminding us that you can take on the political ruling class, powerful oligarchs and their corporate interests, even the demented dictator in the White House, as long as you understand the golden rule of democracy.

True power resides with the people.

To survive the BBC needs a country that genuinely believes in democracy and a diverse press - so it should stop sucking up to politicians and their millionaire backers who don't believe in either, and know, like all dictators, that their propaganda falls apart if they allow anyone to challenge it
🔴The BBC’s Attempts to Appease the ‘Right-Wing Coup’ Against It Are Now Seeding Its Own Destruction

By attempting to appease those forces seeking to destroy them, the BBC has helped trigger a crisis that now threatens its very future, argues Adam Bienkov

This is beautiful and a welcome reminder (last paragraph of the piece): “But either way – responding to crisis or finding a public change of heart – is a reminder that voters are the ultimate arbiters in a functioning democracy. Today, as in late-19th-century America, elections make a difference.”
Late-19th-century America was deeply divided, with narrow election victories, constant congressional shifts and minimal unified government. Sound familiar? A historian explains what that era reveals about breaking today's political gridlock: buff.ly/7nDSgD1
What America’s divided and tumultuous politics of the late-19th century can teach us
There are lessons from history for today’s divided America. Political division in the second half of the 19th century produced more problems than solutions. But it did end − at the ballot box.

Lest we forget all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, democracy and peace.
The finale of the great TV comedy show Blackadder goes Forth.
Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.
Every single time.

illiberal democracy as championed by Hungary's PM. Viktor Orbán... real good buddies with trump and the heritage foundation. (of course you already know all this) so many have no clue.

No, I'm not optimistic about human nature.

Farage looks at Trump and would use the same tactics. He would reverse a lot without a qualm. He wants to be a dictator and has said democracy has failed. Believe him, for once he isn't lying.
