Simultaneously making homebrew, drinking said homebrew, doomscrolling, putting together some Lego, while overseeing the livestreaming our city's carols by candlelight event for work. Quick, someone tell my wife I *can* do more than one thing at once!

Ironically I find Bluesky more doomscrolly than most, due to the rather heavy focus on current events.

I've found the best thing to keep me from doomscrolling is...gaming, oddly enough. These apps generally employ gamification techniques anyway, but at least I can roll credits on a visual novel.

Also got the cover for the X4. I'll carry this in a pocket with only my phone, so should be good.
eReaders aren't perfect in that way, but the convenience of not having to carry 1 or 2 books around outweighs the cons for me.
And this little fella hopefully reducesy doomscrolling :)

My typical daily screen time now is 2-3 hours, an hour of which is reading news/papers/emails on my commute - so very little doomscrolling

But equally, it's much easier than going completely cold turkey. I like the little 10 minutes of daily Reddit time to keep up with things I care about

It's the *only* consistent way I've found to stop myself doomscrolling. I still have a few apps without limits (bluesky, firefox, and YouTube), but those are the ones that I read interesting stuff on instead of doomscrolling (so it feels less bad.)

I dunno if you are a slow reader. Has to be a very good or very short book for me to crack theough them at that pace! Just start. See where you end up in a year. Every book read (or even disgarded) is more valuable than any minute doomscrolling.

Ok, good, realizing how far i've fallen behind people of age has sent me a bit back in that doomscrolling mood again
December 21, 2025 at 8:16 AM
Yes! I know this feeling. I miss so much and can't keep up with everyone. I try, but it's doomscrolling each day and never ends! 😥

Thanks for this, always fun to learn good things while doomscrolling.

Whole thread is worth a read.
This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

Your evenings are either building tomorrow’s brain or blunting it.
Blue light, doomscrolling and late snacks push in one direction.
Reading, walking, calm conversation and early lights push in another.

deleting it off my phone was probably the best decision i've made this month and i want it to stay that way , now i just need to break the habit of doomscrolling
December 21, 2025 at 5:41 AM
Hi, are you doomscrolling? Have you already watched the latest episode of Heated Rivalry? You still deserve time to rest, recover, and see a song from 15-20 years ago absolutely wreck you all over again.
December 21, 2025 at 5:30 AM
It'd work pretty well if my writing (and dry humor) haven't degraded since my doomscrolling addiction lmao
Still pretty certain it helps me decide even in the slightest

You can DM people about these kinds of concerns, and you should because prodding them on a public forum with "THIS YOU?" is not only neurotic but insufferable for anyone with a life outside doomscrolling for 7 hours a day.

I decided to fold a Senbazuru (千羽鶴), or 1000 paper cranes.
They say that a wish is granted to anyone who can fold 1000 in one year!

I felt like it would be a good exercise in mindfulness, and help me to avoid doomscrolling and get a heartfelt wish.

Day 1 was a humble 10 cranes, just 1% of my goal.

Probably gonna be on social media way less often. Prioritizing mental health but also I much prefer reality over doomscrolling :P

Will mostly be on to post art and repost my future commissions advertisement.
