The Kat's Nip store is back open for 2026, and orders received before 8pm tonight will be with the postie tomorrow morning.

I've processed just-shy of a kilogram of catnip over the summer break and spent the last week making Fluffy Balls. It's a good time to hook your cat up.

Beginning of a long road, but outlook is good if we can get through it.

Spaced on the good drugs with a clean bandage and having made toileting goals. Currently hinting she would please like breakfast. So about as well as one could expect 😊

About 45% of gas produced in this country goes to Methanex, the Canadian multinational. Fonterra is another significant gas user. Just in case you are wondering who stands to benefit most from the planned LNG plant which is to be paid for by me, thee and every other individual user of power.

Roxy is now home and high as a kite on opiates. My savings account hurts.

Oh yeah, I'm always anxious beforehand, but then I do it, and it's fine. I've learned to hold onto that. It's a bigger deal in my head than it is to actually do. And this will be worth it. I saw her in 2007 and she was good then. This album is way stronger.

Definitely. Excited to have it locked in. About 3 hours down to Auckland from here. Entirely manageable assuming the Brenderwyns are open.

We are lucky, it's gonna be a heck of a show! I have no idea how I'll manage it, but I figure it's a wee drive, and I know people. I just needed to lock in one actually good thing in 2026, and this is it.

Me too! Yay you!

Surgery went well. We pick her up at 4.

Just about to do the fourth and final spray tank on the driveway. Whether I get to the next two jobs today is anyone's guess, but at least I've done this.
February 9, 2026 at 11:06 PM
First spray tank on the driveway done. Usually takes 3 or 4 to do my section. I'd also normally walk up to do it, but I'm using the car today so the other dog can hang out with me safely. Glad these dogs are both excited by and happy with hanging out in the car.

And she's admitted. Headed home to start on the list of busy work to keep my mind off it.

Grateful Kerikeri somehow has a very well-respected ortho surgeon to do this, and we don't have to travel far for good care.

Leaving to drop dog at vets for her knee replacement soon. Have a job-heavy day planned to distract myself while we wait. Spraying the driveway, submitting expenses, and fixing a gate. Gonna be a long-ass day.

ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

IT WAS THE ADDITIONAL ONE BILLION THAT MADE THEM STOP THE DUNEDIN HOSPITAL AND IREX.

No money for hospitals or the ferries, money to prop up fossil fuels.
Given all the really important shit that this government says we "can't afford" it's amazing what they manage to find money for.

Roxy is gonna get her last snack with her old knee soon. She gets her roboknee tomorrow, so she can have a dentastix, then no more food from 8pm.

At this point just growing for my own use. The seeds are something I sell because it's not available with the major suppliers though. My garden is just filled with strange choices πŸ˜†

After making a big deal out of the roadside drug testing rollout, government, police, and media have all gone strangely quiet.

I wonder if it's not going as well as they envisioned?

Just went out and checked the other bed. I think I'm looking at a much larger haul in a few weeks, so might hold off the smoking til I have a really good load. I'll probably do all 3 options by the end of the season though. Turns out 11 plants is a lot of paprika πŸ˜…
February 8, 2026 at 10:28 PM
Decent paprika haul today. I could:
a) dehydrate and blitz to powder.
b) smoke them, followed by drying and blitzing.
c) try making a chilli crisp.

They're milder than a chilli, but hotter than I was expecting.
February 8, 2026 at 10:05 PM
Might make a really nice mild chilli crisp actually πŸ€”
February 8, 2026 at 9:53 PM
It's not ideal lol. Thankfully much lower on the scoville scale than an average chilli, but more than I was expecting in sweet paprika!! πŸ˜…

I was admiring how red it is this year. Turns out, that means spicy.
