Only two Lab leaders didn't weave Mandelson into their team.
John Smith (Blair's predecessor) & Corbyn.

Starmer's also in thick with another Epstein bro, Peter Thiel. Attending off-the-books meetings etc.

Thiel owns Palantir & 30+ Gov contracts: 670M.

What links Jeffrey Epstein and Keir Starmer’s government? A thick seam of contempt | Nesrine Malik
We’re often told the PM is a ‘decent’ man. But in appointing Peter Mandelson he chose political convenience over doing right by trafficked women and girls, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

A few of the UK people who had mentions because they were the gatekeepers of powerful people - e.g. PM Blair's communications director - have called for full release since January 2025.

There's debate among Lab circles between who was more successful Atlee or Blair. Blair stayed 4 longer but Atlee delivered real change (NHS, welfare state etc) that was harder 2 budge (even 4 Tories) than Blair's which were mostly eradicated pretty quickly under Osbourne.

VIDEO ALT TEXT: A highlight of Trinity Blair's Marvel Rivals gameplay as Squirrel Girl. It shows Dr Strange opening a portal for her team, then using it to target the enemies on the point directly with her main attacks and ultimate attack where Squirrel Girl yells, "Squirrel stampede!"

I think I remember the moment I wrote off Blair's government: when Pinochet stood up from his wheelchair after Straw sent him home.

In happier news today, my animation books arrived! 😄 I'll start reading them this evening 😁

Would that fr label include Shabina Mahmood? Asking because she has Tony Blair's backing, and because of his latest known transatlantic networks (plus epstein etc)

BECAUSE of 1992! Blair's Labour was elected on a promise to keep to the Tories' spending plans. Which even the Tories were not going to stick to as they were too stringent.

Is my memory failing, or was that also the case during parts of Blair’s reign?

Blair's Bonkers Broken Britain.

Whoever gets a job from their clique ends up disappointing said clique. Whether as a cabinet member or the realities of governing... And don't necessarily make good ministers.

That said, though, Tony Blair's appointment of Tony Banks as Minister for Sport was indeed inspired!

Mate, I was campaigning against Labour when you were sitting in Labour Party conference tutting along to Tony Blair's leader's speech.

Don't come the purity test with me.

I'd never argue that everything was perfect in 1997, but in Blair's first cabinet you had Gordon Brown, Jack Straw, Robin Cook, Margaret Beckett, John Prescott, Clare Short, Mo Mowlam and Alistair Darling, all of whom had a degree of credibility. (And I always had a soft spot for Frank Dobson.)

Starmer's 'inconvenient truth' is less an anomaly, more a political tradition. From Blair's 'Third Way' to today's Gaza stance, expediency consistently trumps principle. Public trust pays the price. #UKPolitics #PoliticalStrategy

It’s true that he doesn’t have Blair’s “Cool Britannia,” aura, or Boris’ Teflon haystack mop of hair to deflect all comers…

Worth remembering that Mandelson was instrumental in getting Andrew his 'trade envoy' 'job'.
We can only speculate how much the other knew that they were each sharing documents against the interests of the UK. Let's hope the police fully investigate this.

A thing one gets from re-watching 'In the Thick of it' is the sense that political SpAd-ocracies are dominated by packs of weird & obsessive sniggering young blokes. E.g. wasn't Mandelson's consultancy pal Ben Wegg-Prosser nicknamed 'Oofy' when he was Blair's StratComs Director in his early 30s?
Much the same as with Karen Pierce and the US ambo appointment, Starmer actually had someone who could have been director of comms, Steph Driver, who gave years of hard work and professionalism in opposition but then got a succession of people promoted over her for no apparent reason
February 9, 2026 at 2:54 PM
And therein lies a question. None of the above! Those that aren’t Blair’s retreads are clones.
