#Ambulation
Ambulation is a binary condition. You can either walk or you can't. It's just science! brb trying to get my LAZY nonagenarian father-in-law to the car.

Responsible Recoveryleo.notenboom.org Problems viewing in email? View online.Setting an example? Really? (Image: Gemini) My primary responsibility right now is to myself, to recover. That means physically (strengthening ambulation, improved balance, manual dexterity, etc), as well as psychologically, mainly via the written word. In reality, though, the responsibilities go further. Much further. In "Put On Your Own Mask First," I talk about how important it is to take care of yourself to be there for others. If you're incapacitated, it doesn't matter how much you want to help someone else; you simply cannot, and you both suffer. Over the past months and years, we've been trying to assist others in various ways. Now, much of that has had to take a hiatus while I focus on reestablishing my own capabilities. It's frustrating (and, honestly, it's really made me feel like I'd let some important people in my life down), but it's a clear priority. I also realized something else: I have a responsibility to set an example. Details are inappropriate, but there are people in my life who have experienced less-than-stellar examples of recovery. They've witnessed people's health experiences only to see the target of that experience fall into what I can best term "learned helplessness", rather than active participation in their own recovery. This was brought home to me when I saw how some reacted as I insisted on refusing small acts of kindness. I did so not out of hubris, but because the acts being replaced were important to my recovery. For example, I asked a friend not to open a soda can for me, but to let me work on redeveloping the skills to do so myself. Repeat for task after task, and that's how growth and recovery happen. Of course, it's all with care and caution, but my approach is to do as much as I can myself, specifically to rebuild my skills and strength as soon as I can. Apparently, I'm unique. Others would prefer to be taken care of. While I guess I understand the allure, that's just not me. That we can choose to take responsibility for our own growth and recovery seems a no-brainer to me. That's why I was surprised at the reactions my self-initiated actions and progress sometimes elicited. But those reactions further brought home to me the importance of modelling the healthy behavior I'd want to see in others. I'm healing myself, and to the extent I can, I'm apparently setting an example of how to do it. I hope I'm up to the task. Read and comment at leo.notenboom.org

Update is that it was more than a TIA, but not as bad as it could have been. She’s alert and talking fine, but her ambulation is off. There keeping her into next week and then we’ll see.
My mom had a mini stroke and went to the hospital yesterday. Please send good vibes. I’m waiting to talk to the doctor later to see what I need to do.

Hot take:

Tech bros would rather spend literally billions of dollars to figure out bipedal robot ambulation than invest that money into just making everywhere accessible by much-more-reliable wheeled devices because, *best* case scenario, they don’t care about people with disabilities.

Racewalked 4k this morning at ~8:27km (13:30/mi) for an inaugural ambulation. What a wonderfully bizarre form of exercise.
Intrusive thought: what if I got into racewalking? Like, train to do a 20k?

Depending if he's left or right handed, it can affect speech. Also, memory, critical thinking, control of inhibitions (think giving a microphone a blowjob), difficulty in choosing words and forming sentences, general communication issues, incontinence (he wears diapers), and ambulation.

Pokemon: Emerald Ambulation (nuzlocke)

The mod that has your Pokemon walk around behind you like in Gen II is very cool but also glitches out your game a lot, so save regularly if you do check it out

Also check out our Nuzlocke 👀👀👀 www.patreon.com/wensleydalec...

I hope not. I'm guessing it's related to my shitty ambulation from years of cane use. Need PT but it's expensive.

If I attempted to walk everywhere just because I technically can, I'd make it maybe 15 feet. And be unable to do anything else...ever actually. Lol.

Paralyzed people can also have movement and ambulation, as a side note. Just in case you didn't know.

12/107 patients were non ambulant. At 60, 25% had lost ambulation. The north star ambulatory assessment scale (NSAA) was done & showed a ceiling effect for many patients with scores of 33-34 (34 is max). Over time there was a decline (0.6 points per year), more prominently in patients scoring <32

The case manager called and denied the claim. I explained the patient was still unable to squat or bend over to pick something up without being a repeat break or fall risk, but was getting there. About 40-45% confidence markers but still with assisted ambulation.

Canes meant to be used in an actual ambulation situation? As opposed to Strategic Canes, which are canes that are stockpiled to deter the body from activities?

3 spinal surgeries. My legs work..it's my spine that's the problem. I use a wheelchair for most ambulation. I can use a walker for short distances like getting into the bathroom.
Boss was fine with me 100% teleworking due to how difficult it would be to get into work. I got lucky.

Authors discuss that one of the patients in their cohort lost ambulation at age 9. He has a deletion of exon 2-7, which is in-frame but does remove the first two actin binding domains. Patient had 40% dystrophin on western blot.

What were M.'s standing post-op pain meds? I dare him to say he didn't prescribe opioids.

Early ambulation, especially post abdominal surgery, is key to preventing pneumonia. Ineffective pain control prevents early ambulation.
