4m

The U.S. Senate approved a short-term funding measure to end the federal government shutdown, with seven to eight Democrats breaking ranks to join Republicans and send it to the House.

Democrats were overwhelmingly united on their shutdown demands.

Americans understood that Trump and Republicans were to blame.

Voters made it known last Tuesday that they'll elect leaders who stand up to Trump.

Democrats held the cards — and folded for no reason.

I’m not a conspiracy person but it is an odd combination of Democratic Senators caving: mainly people retiring or not up for re-election until 2028. Moreover, Democratic leadership seems to accept them breaking rank without any consequences or even serious critique… 🙄

🚨 The shutdown isn’t over. The Senate vote was a procedural step, not a deal. Nothing is reopening. Nothing is fixed. Eight Democrats helped move an old GOP bill while families go unpaid and SNAP stays frozen.

Flood the lines. Call your Senators.

Upset about the government shutdown at any of its various stages, including how it might end? Consider @roberttalisse.bsky.social's take: The fault, dear voter, lies in ourselves and not the politicians theconversation.com/blame-the-sh...
Blame the shutdown on citizens who prefer politicians to vanquish their opponents rather than to work for the common good
Politicians get blamed for government shutdowns. But does the fault lie also with citizens, who are more invested in punishing partisan rivals than in demanding competent government?

The shutdown deal includes a ban on hemp products that none of its negotiators debated in public.

Disappointing that only 24 senators voted against killing an amendment to strike that ban.

I think that these 8 Senators are falling on the sword for Schumer and other Senators who wanted the shutdown to end. This allows the majority of Senators to save face; and only retiring or not up for reelection Senators take the heat.

It’s a ruse.
