It is absolutely right that we do not need Greenland (or Canada) for natsec reasons because they are already close NATO allies. So the only rationale to turn the US into an aggressor in our own hemisphere is if you don’t plan on NATO being a US alliance in the future.

The basic risk is this: Iran has sophisticated SIGINT capabilities. If any single member of the 20-person group chat had allowed their handset to be compromised by spyware then it’s a direct line from Iran->Houthis. This isn’t some kind of remote possibility. It’s a real, live risk that was ignored.

Can’t get my head around prioritising cutting public services, welfare and jobs (ie punishing people) over investing and removing unnecessary barriers to trade with Europe. Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.
I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.
