Since I'm new to BlueSky (as many are), a quick introduction! I'm a high school history/humanities teacher in Arkansas. I teach US, World, & American Military History, as well as USGov, American Studies, and Humanities Capstone.

Fortunate to teach at a free, public, residential high school! 1/

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Washington “was an enslaver right to the very end. And yet, he also regularly spoke about how much he wanted to see an end to the institution of slavery.…This wasn’t a story of Washington gradually coming to see the evil of slavery, either; he held many of these positions at the same time.”

Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, let’s steal some of their policies.

In Denmark:

- Health care and college are free.

- The starting wage is $22/hr.

- Paid parental leave is 1 year.

- Paid vacation is 6 weeks.

- All workers get pensions.

Columbia University has failed to defend academic freedom & freedom of speech & allowed a great institution to be bullied & extorted into submission by an administration hellbent on contorting higher education to their will.

The AAUP condemns this capitulation. We can & must fight back.

to be clear, this is what mass deportation looks like: going after parents, grandparents, neighbors, workers, people building (or who have built) American lives who have done more to enrich their communities than any person serving in this monstrous administration

On my U.S. government exam, I ask them if they were an American citizen in 1787, would they have been a Federalist or Anti-Federalist.

...Secretly pleased with the number of Anti-Federalist responses. Students want a bill of rights, fret over the "necessary and proper clause" & the power of elites

Can I point out the obvious? Democrats are enraged that DOJ has halted a prosecution of a Democratic mayor. I can’t remember the last time Republicans denounced a Republican accused of corruption; they support graft for its own sake, regardless of party. And don’t get me started on sex crimes.
Dropping the Adams case is so obviously corrupt and unethical that a former Scalia clerk resigned on principle. This is not a partisan issue; it's a question of whether DOJ will be weaponized by this administration on behalf of its allies and against its opponents.

Too many people on here seem to believe there are exactly two kinds of Americans: ardent politically-obsessed Bluesky users, and frothing MAGA cultists.

There are a LOT of people in this country who *just don’t pay a lot of attention one way or another*.

And we absolutely can reach them.

Turn on the #4Nations USA-CAN hockey game on ESPN right now. Star-Spangled Banner booed loudly in Montreal. THREE fights in the first 15 seconds. Canada up 1-0.

Dramatic blend of sports and politics. I'm a generally patriotic sort re: sports, but it's hard to be proud of USA as a nation right now.
