I just had a meeting with other editors-in-chief of journals in my field to talk about AI issues in publishing.

AI technology has raised a lot of practical and ethical issues in research that our review processes (and the time we allot to them) are unprepared to cope with. #AcademicSky

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

This would be a terrific project for an undergrad public policy class.
If someone hasn’t already made this, with holiday gatherings approaching it could be useful having a website with graphs, cited blurbs to illustrate HOW government institutions have changed and become underfunded, how it will affect NOT ‘just those people’ but ALL of us. Too many don’t grasp it.

On the "Mississippi Miracle:"

We've heard a lot about MS reading gains. The puzzle: in the Spencer (2024) study, MS NAEP math and scores in 4th grade increased by similar amounts. Perhaps retention, not instruction, is doing some of the work here?
