Something useful for any new community organizer to be aware of is that the community you organize is shaped by all the work you do, and the process by which people become aware of your organizing and join your community is a major part of it.
In order to be effective, you need to be intentional.

Fighting game events don't inherently skew left, but fighting game events that maintain mask and vax policies, feed each other, and aggressively ban xenophobes are a good starting point for cultivating the duty of mutual care among each other. And once that duty is internalized, it's easy to spread.

In the time it takes to resolve any online argument you could complete a full run in a Metal Slug game instead. If the choice is a tedious conflict with a bad faith stranger you may eventually regret or a tight half hour with the most satisfying pixel run & gun games of all time, always bet on Slug.

don't think too much, once you grab the refs just go straight to the canvas and immediately start sketching something.

We are living in an age of incredible prosperity, and a lot of the "surplus" value being generated is being gambled on making rich idiots richer by paying less-rich idiots to chase bullshit.
VC is perhaps the most egregious symptom but it's really everywhere.
