On a heritage trip with clients I saw an interesting way of incorporating #genealogy into a (historical) environment. The access path to the terp of Hegebeintum (on which a beautiful church from 1150 stands) mentions the names of three generations of the family that owned the area.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Never a dull moment in genealogy.
Paleography pearl.

"1672 on May 12, baptized Grietje, illegitimate daughter of the godless deceased Engelbert Jans and the filthy whore Bauwe Edses, adulteress"

But nonetheless baptized. 😳

Additions to my library!
When I was a kid, my best friend's dad had built a room in their basement to serve as a library. He had thousands of books. I grew up wanting the same thing. It makes me happy reading about other people's libraries. 😊❤️via @yhoitink.bsky.social

Occam's Razor is a philosphical tool that helps you zoom in on the most likely explanation. A lot has been written about Occam's Razor, but it boils down to the simpler explanation is usually correct.

It's #GenHour again. Earlier today I listened to an interesting talk about the Dutch Reformed Church in America. Told my 14-year-old son he would have loved it and he was like "WUT?"
Then told him about the cameo by @deborahhamer.bsky.social's cat and he completely agreed! We💖cats. This is June.

3. if you changed majors, what did you change to?
4. what do you do now, professionally?

1. environmental scientist
2. I was undeclared
3. History then Anthropology/Archaeology
4. Reference Librarian
