I've been doing #genealogy since I was eight. I created this account along with "A Deck of Ancestors" blog, for participating in Amy Johnson Crow's #52Ancestors Challenge. (I'm also @vanderfluit.bsky.social)

I started the #52Ancestors Challenge in January 2022 over at the dead bird site, so Week 1 of my first year of participating isn't here. So I thought I should re-share the genesis of this account and provide a bit of a reintroduction. #genealogy

#genealogy If you're researching #FamilyHistory and you just can't find that burial or baptism, don't forget to do a newspaper search for the place name around the time of the missing person. You might find context that you didn't expect. One of the bits that inspired me to do a #OnePlaceStudy
#OnePlaceWednesday You'd think I'd remember it was Antram, not Antrim, after finding this article from the

For a third year in a row, I've turned my weekly blog, based on @amyjohnsoncrow.bsky.social's #52Ancestors Challenge, into a book. Now that I've finished handing them out as Hanukkah and Christmas gifts, I can take my own copy out of hiding. Merry Holidays to me! #genealogy #FamilyHistory

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

@jmendelsohn.bsky.social reposted this on Facebook today. It remains as true now as it was when she first wrote it.

(The dictionary image reminds me that one of the first things to learn is how to spell "genealogy" 🤣)
