The web site ought to be back up in a few days. Right now it is a wreck (again)!

Does anyone know how closely Jeffrey Epstein was supervising Donald Trump during the Alaskan meeting with Vladimir Putin?

I’m pretty sure that Epstein demanded that Trump do something but I’m not clear what he wanted this time.

I wonder why Trump hasn’t claimed that Obama was listed in the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Oh wait. Never mind.

Then he would need to release the Epstein files. It doesn’t seem like Mr. Trump wants people to read those files.

Not even (maybe especially not) the MAGA supporters!

The most amazing thing to me about everything @jennifertaub.com knows is that even THAT is not enough to distract people from Jeffrey Epstein and his connections with Donald Trump!

This is comparing apples and rollerblades. I can’t support “white folks” or LGBTQIA+ people the same way I support Colbert. He is a person, not a class!

I DO support democracy and the people she cited. I am just not able to support classes the same way I support individuals.

I think the WSJ has checked this carefully and they seem willing to bet the farm on it.

A few years ago WSJ got sketchy with reality like this Administration has since January. I dropped my subscription because I didn’t trust them.

Maybe the WSJ are returning to responsible journalism.

Geek survey for DBAs and Windows admins: do you understand/use the robocopy.exe /mir parameter?

It makes the destination a mirror of the source. It will copy/delete/skip destination files as needed to make that mirror.

Is /mir an obscure feature or “standard equipment” for you?

A week or three ago I saw a fan wearing a T-shirt at a Cubs game.

The shirt said “Superman wears PCA pajamas”

That isn’t out of the question!

A recruiter could make a windfall tracking the people who are fired/let go/etc. from the United States Government, Amazon, and Microsoft.

Those people have the minds and mindsets that businesses need today!

You can be pretty certain that you are old when your “fun pills” are OTCs that don’t need a prescription instead of recreational pharmaceuticals!

The letter written by Amelie Feldman is clear evidence of both an athlete and a first class human being.

The behavior by Maine Rep Libby is not.

This is why politicians need to have experts to guide them and who clearly desperately need to stay out of things that they don’t understand.
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

Does anyone use the iPhone Rocketbook app? I logged into getrockebook.com and bought a handful of their kits and notepads but can’t use them.

The app has such promise, but I can’t get past the login screen. It goes through the motions but never logs me in, lets me reset my password or anything.

I have more than 2500 Kindle titles. I frequently need to cross reference these ebooks for research. I need two or more ebooks in a single cross reference (like an index).

Effective February 26, 2025 Amazon is making the titles I haven’t downloaded useless to me.

Good for Sheryl Crow!

Selling a Tesla and donating the proceeds of that sale to NPR is the right thing to do.

Anyone who still drives a Tesla carries the stench of Musk wherever they go. No one needs that baggage.
This is the way.

I just realized the extent that I’ve been wrapped up in personal issues. My wife has had a stream of health problems in quick succession since January 2020. Work combined with those have demanded 100% of my attention.

I’m trying to make time for social media, but I’m out of practice and time.

Brian Stelter thinks that the world is not “a few steps from The Handmaids Tale”

That leads me to wonder whether he sees us already deeply embroiled in the Handmaid’s Tale, or somehow more than a few steps away from it.

If you refer to European history circa 1939…

I wonder why they put the expiration month and day on products like egg nog, but not the year.

Things like that bother a data geek in the small hours.
February 14, 2025 at 6:20 AM
It just about killed me to throw out an unopened quart container of Egg Nog tonight.

Since it is Valentine’s Day, it probably would have killed me a lot more graphically if I hadn’t thrown it out.

We have to be grown ups and do hard things, but when you’re as cheap as me they are still hard

Not especially noteworthy but my Bluesky account will be tweaked/renamed in about two weeks as part of my plan to rebuild YetAnotherSQL.com

The site had a complete meltdown while my wife was really sick.

This is NOT high priority for me, but it is planned.

The Fediverse is becoming a lot more diverse and inclusive (of features) and the growth is accelerating!

This list isn’t complete. No list of Fediverse sites/apps is ever likely to be complete but this is a great place to start!
You will like Fediverse.

There is Pixelfed for Instagram, Loops for TikTok, PeerTube for YouTube, Frendica for Facebook and Lemmy for Reddit.

Come on Lemmy if you ever had question regarding Fediverse.

I replaced my old router. The new mesh is a lot more capable, but it can’t easily add an SSID to match the old WiFi.

I’m stopped by something (probably Norton 360) from upgrading my Bose equipment.

Does anyone know an easy fix? I don’t want to run the old router forever.

I wouldn’t expect this to be too difficult for the reporters. It appears to me that the bulk of the politicians don’t actually know what DEI is, and many of them think DEI might be bad.

The reporter goes along with the interviewee then asks “What does DEI mean to you?”

Seems easy-peasy to me.
A huge part of being a white political reporter right now is pretending you don’t know what republicans mean by DEI hire

This was not an anomaly. It has been independently tested and confirmed that it matters if commas are placed inside or outside of the quotation marks.

This has been true in all languages tested so far.

@cathrinew.net is a rock star!
I just spent an hour debugging, trying to figure out why my code was not working. Turns out it absolutely matters whether you put commas inside or outside quotes. Whodathought? 🙃
