And again, bc I searched before I got here: Austin airport seems totally unfazed by lingering shutdown. Took less than 3 minutes to get through pre check line at 12:20. Photo refusers are now required to show boarding pass (new since Friday) to TSA person.

Mainly bc I searched for this - Austin airport 2p time through TSA pre check was about 15 minutes. Longer than typical but nothing different from an early morning. A lot of shorter delays leading to a build up of people and heat in the airport. So far, so good on beer supply.

Pro tip, folks: if you make a figure for a publication, don’t just hand the copyright over to the publisher. Post it on OSF first and then give yourself permission to use it in the first publication and then all future publications. That way, no permissions issues.

Random hail storm interrupted my run but confirmed one can still hitchhike in Austin. Haven't done that in a couple decades.

Beyond the point, but interesting how little some know about track/XC despite expressing epic concern: for college recruiters, like lovers, place doesn't matter - only time.
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

I had a half formed paper idea about the prevalence of 80s cars in Black Mirror. Never got around to it. Can't believe nobody wrote it before the theory became just news.
“Location data is some of the most sensitive, revealing information that is generated by our devices,” EFF’s Andrew Crocker told @wired.com. “You can paint a very clear picture of someone's life with just a list of all the places they've been in their car.”

It’ll be fascinating (in the worst sense) to see these things hallucinate allegations, elements, and ‘facts' in criminal case filings.
A federal judge in Wyoming received a motion citing nine cases. Of the nine, eight don't exist.

When she demanded an explanation, the lawyers said their "artificial intelligence platform ‘hallucinated’ the cases in question."

The attorneys filed court documents referencing eight non-existent cases, then admitted it was a "hallucination" by an AI tool.

It says "the United States shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation"
