This @jamellebouie.net column is a must-read. Trump cannot explain his tariffs because they arise from a fundemental psychological characteristic: the need to dominate everything everywhere all at once www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/o...
Opinion | Trump’s Lust for Power Cannot Be Satiated
The tariff saga is just the latest example of the president’s urge to dominate.

WARNER: Can you explain how it helps natl security or our trade balance - I loved your fancy Greek formula which was bad math on steroids - how with a trade surplus Australia got hit with a 10% tariff as well?

GREER: Australia has the lowest rate available

WARNER: We have a trade surplus!

Reminder: Tariffs aren't paid by other countries.

They're eventually paid by us at the check out line.

And they're regressive — taking a higher percentage out of the paychecks of working people than out of the wealthy.

Analysts have said that if Apple passed on tariffs to its customers, the iPhone 16 could increase from $799 to more than $1,100. Uncertainty has spurred anxious shoppers to panic-buy iPhones. Wirecutter experts do not recommend panic buying anything.

I was in the room when Larry Fink—CEO of the world’s largest asset manager—said it plainly: “We’re already in a recession.” No spin. No hedging. Just a clear warning. Markets are tumbling. Tariffs are rising. China is retaliating. This isn't just about Wall Street anymore...it’s hurting all of us.

Treasury bonds are traditionally seen as a safe haven in times of economic turmoil, because they offer investors a guaranteed payment backed by the U.S. government. Instead, investors are selling the assets.

Here's what to know.
Another Rocky Day in Markets: Stocks and Bonds Sink
With the S&P 500 near a bear market, shares in Europe and Asia fell as China and other major U.S. trading partners confronted significantly higher tariffs. Investors also sold U.S. bonds.

"The power of the people is greater than the people in power."

We are just starting to reclaim our power. It's ours. This is our country. These are our lives. The power lies with us.
