I’ve spent the weekend thinking about how decolonization is related to desire for migration control. Looking forward to discussing this at SSHA w/ @srmeiners.bsky.social and others. Part of how migration control got entrenched in late 20th century and today’s third country transfer agreements.

This is our POTUS. Let that sink in.
With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

“‘People read Foucault,” the redoubtable David Brooks once wrote, “and develop an alienated view of the world.” God, did I love this. An “alienated view of the world”! Not by, like, trying to pay rent or having an insurance claim denied—no, no, it was probably the Foucault you read in 2003.”

Super important reporting about treatment in El Salvador. Since many of the men sent to CECOT and returned to VZ were asylum seekers, reporting on what they are facing in VZ is also really important — needs attention.

These ICE raids have completely changed my view of law enforcement.

This morning I woke up to several police vans and trucks on my block and police cars on each end. I ran outside to speak to a female police officer and said: what is going on? I’ll watch from outside.

I truly don’t get the billionaires who gave millions to Cuomo in the last week of the race. Huge waste of money that could have been spent on the hungry and so many other causes that could use a boost right now.

This is coercion. This is the main tactic the Trump administration is using to deport people.
Today's hearing, which @jonseidel.bsky.social has been livetweeting, is in a lawsuit about conditions inside Broadview. One man held for 3 days broke into tears as he testified to the awful conditions.

Multiple sworn declarations says ICE uses the threat of longer stays to get deportation orders. 🧵
