I think once people stop waiting for one person or one big galvanizing moment to "save us" and realize this is gonna take a lot of work from a lot of people for a long time we will maybe get somewhere.

I've stopped answering "good" whenever someone asks how I am and started answering with a polite acknowledgement of my stress & a vague gesture indicating the world. The interesting thing for me has been that people generally have responded both in kind & not at all awkwardly.
Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.

But comfort that turns defensive is the worst sort of conservatism. The sort that looks at anyone outside the tent, or on the other side of the tent, as an enemy. That refuses to believe there's anything outside the tent and worse, refuses to let anyone leave. No change. No joy. Just the blanket.
