There was an extra awesome part to breaking the record where Cory Booker did it while speaking about John Lewis, a prominent civil rights activist during the time the original record was set who later became a representative. It was an incredibly moving & important gesture

I have no idea if it'll help, but right now anything energetic from the Democrats is better than the ping pong paddle brigade. And as usual, the Black folks are leading the charge, but that's a whole other thing.

Americans love a story, for better or for worse, & it's been a nightmare trying to get through the propaganda fire-hose from the right. We need something to break through.
(Also I read it's not technically a filibuster as there's no legislation he's trying to stop a vote on, but potayto potahto.)

Kind of a 1-2-punch of inspiring & calling to action. How much it shifts the public conversation/action depends on a lot of things, but there will be a lot to be said for beating the previous longest speech's record by a white supremacist who spoke against Civil Rights.

Disrupting business as usual tends to get on Americans' radar, so Cory Booker is using an opportunity to get people's attention & disseminate information about what is happening that many are not aware of due to the news not covering it, while also boosting the energy behind opposing fascism.

After Schumer rolled over it infuriated a large portion of the Democratic base & there's been a push to change their leadership. Most of us want them to have a unified front & much MUCH better messaging but they're disconnected fossils & a lot are beholden to corporations, not the voters.

Bit of a long answer, but I'm gonna try to share my understanding. There's a massive amount of frustration & anger right now & a lot of us have been calling our reps repeatedly to tell them what we want/don't & demand they do something. So far there's been a lot of nothing from the Democrats.
