Some horneros built a nest in front of my office window at the previous house I rented. Those nests are very solidly built.
On the seminary grounds I saw my first hornero nest. The birds build these mud huts in trees and on top of utility poles, and once you know what they look like, you see them everywhere.

What’s that album that makes you cry every time you listen to it?
For me, it’s Marked for Death by Emma Ruth Rundle.

9/11. I’m sure if I think hard enough there’s something I can remember that happened in the few years before that, but 9/11’s the one that stuck with me.
What’s the first major news story your remember as a child?

Mine is OJ Simpson

A haunted house, but it’s just the PM not giving any feedback after you turn in a challenging translation.
A haunted house but it's just you saying "haha" because you didn't hear them for the third time
A haunted house, but it is just all the times you were awkward since birth.

“The billionaire class is not just a group of people that ‘happen to be’ super-rich. It is a dynastic oligarchy with one main objective: to control the government in order to protect its inherited wealth.”

“Jurassic Park. Mario. Grogu. Under Armor,” she chanted as she matched up a mountain of socks. This was a large Grogu on a blue background. It did not match the many-Grogu pattern on the white sock.

They found her minutes later, looking like she’d died a century ago, her body preserved by bog water

Ah nothing like reading the Chief AI Scientist at Meta and a“godfather” of GenAi advocate for the outright pillaging of all of our creative works. Thank you for letting us know our livelihoods and work mean nothing, as long as their dear for profit tech has fodder to train with. 👍

Christ, just give me a PhD at this point. If all you need to do to be a college prof is know how to write prompts on ChatGPT, I think I’m more than qualified.
UCLA's AI-loving comp lit prof now says of her AI use, "I feel more empowered by this process. I am more of a teacher than I’ve ever been” and that her use of AI--which will include having it literally come up with the fucking assignments-- is “highly pedagogical and highly responsible.”

This way of settling devastation is so fascinating to me. I think many people have written about it being permission — if you can pay the fine/settlement then why not, when you make so much money from it in the first place?

It’s really, you can kill people if you have the money to pay for it.
WASHINGTON (AP) — McKinsey & Company agrees to pay $650 million to settle US investigation into opioids work, court papers say.

Benefit of the doubt is a gift:

Daniel Penny got the benefit of the doubt that his chokehold wasn’t meant to kill.

Jordan Neely, who shouted but never put hands on anyone, wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt if he was a danger to others.

One is free because of it, one is dead because of it.

I’m really bad at doing this consistently but:
