This is just silly. There is not enough power or money to do this. It takes 5 years to build a single powerplant. We are not being serious right now.

I think there is probably a middle ground between "everything is better" and "everything is worse" that captures the way planned obsolescence and "fixing this violates the warranty" have made products worse. I think products are generally safer AND less durable.
This really is just nostalgia. Cars are much better now. A $65 pair of shoes will still last years if you don't beat them up, and you can buy better ones for a bit more if you like. The annoyances in modern products are "too many useless features" and not "could malfunction and kill you."
Cars were better when you didn't need a subscription to turn on your heated seats or when companies couldn't literally throttle your engine output/power without paying a subscription fee! That kind of rent seeking makes products worse and makes them want when products didn't do that.

a few months ago I said "having generative AI handle absolutely anything with regards to healthcare is a nightmare and should be banned" and a bunch of people made fun of me and called me stupid. anyways,

We sent a crew to Italy ahead of the Winter Games and I just had to upload the photos from Florence. Chat, I am not okay. This level of jealousy is unhealthy.

You should read Ed's stuff and listen to his podcast.
I cannot express how wild this quote is. This is a top tech analyst at a well-regarded firm saying that there is not enough capital to actually pay for all the stuff that NVIDIA and OpenAI has promised. It is so important that everybody realizes that *there is not enough money to do this*
I spoke with analyst Gil Luria at D.A. Davidson, asking if the capital existed to build OpenAI's promised 17GW of data centers.

He said "of course there isn't enough capital for all of this," but "enough capital to do this for a at least a little while longer."

Side parts are better than middle parts. LAN parties were much better than playing together over the internet. Newspapers and magazines were better than websites are now.

@nickhasthoughts.com I thought of you as I walked through Chicago this weekend wondering why the hell a typewriter factory built in like 1905 looks better than anything I've seen built in Indianapolis in the past 20 years.

I can't name the movies, they were just clips I happened to catch on TV that I was supposed to see. In one, someone in a full body cast is swarmed by insects while futilely struggling. (1/2)
