We missed a few days at the end because our headspace and lack of ability to work to our own satisfaction in much but the written word. But overall we really appreciated the event, it was a lovely chance to walk through Castine again and find bits we'd never seen before.
We're at the end! For this last day, I'll leave it as a free space or for your closing thoughts! Did this do what it needed for you? Did you learn a lot or make friends? :3
(I'd also appreciate feedback to improve for next year, maybe. 👉👈)

It takes a village! Or floating city, underground hideout, star fleet...
Anyways, a single person isn't running a show by themselves, nor do we create alone. So, today, give some acknowledgement to those who inspired you in some way on your journey.

Look, it's the dragons, they conquered the city, tamed the volcano, and now most of the city is part dragonblood.
Teryte is about dragons, be that their intimacy with humans, each other, or the impact of them on the machinations of the gods.
And that's just our active WIPs.
What people or groups are making the biggest splash here that's plot relevant in the most or least spoiler-y way possible? Who's your Giovanni and his Team Rocket?
(Look, I'm a big Pokémon fan; first thing I thought of.)

What is 'now'? We're never writing in less than three time periods at a time to be honest.
In one section we are writing the Exile Mages are returning after 700 years.
In another a plague is ravaging the city.
In yet another the city is tearing itself apart in fear.
It's odd.
Thinking more on current events here... what's going on RIGHT NOW here?
What are your (or your players') characters about to walk into like they've just come back with pizza and now everything's the Darkest Timeline (or not)?

Oh gosh, loads. So, there are the solstice and equinox celebrations, these show up in all sorts of stories, including one Queen announcing her pregnancy at the summer one by standing in the pure and letting it burn away her dress to show the bump.
Moving into current events! Feel free to talk about multiple if you'd like to, but first and foremost I want to know what the characters might get to experience some R&R and fun times (this might tie into tomorrow's question, for maybe not so fun times!).

Honestly, there is a touch of other settlements thinking of Castinians as a 'hoity-toity elite' and that it is an excessively queer space, neither are exactly wrong, but, also, neither are taken to a true distain. Now, what the Inigne North think of Castine . . . That's for a book.
😊 Let's expand with some intercommunity stuff.
I look forward to the sports rivalry-esque relationships over like, who's got the better hamburger.

Okay, so this is going to feel like it escalates quickly.
Crime in Castine is fundamentally the lowest in the New Federation, which has low crime rates due to measures like UBI, the Queen's Grace, and collectivist values in their education, philosophies and beliefs.
🧵 of 20 sorry.
If crime isn't something you want to calculate or give voice to, give us some unusual laws (or, to loosen it, social mores).
or do both lol

The city of Castine is the seat of the Monarchy, but governing the city itself falls on a council of twelve. They are a split of elected, from regions of the city, four from the outer city, two from the inner, and the rest are appointed, by various authorities of the city.
I'm being boring, but it's on the tin today. 💜
If you're talking about something much bigger than "city"-scale, national/global is applicable instead.

Education, medicine, or the arts and crafts on offer is the short version. Promising mages, if not taken in by Eagle Rock to the east, are offered a significant stipend to their family to come and train. The ability to access such vast libraries and networks of academics is unique.
Yesterday was for the people already here, today's for those that aren't.
Why do people want to come here (entertainment, education, work, etc.)?
And are the people that live here okay with that? 👀

So, Castine has the usual, parks, inns, tearooms even. Notably the alcohol content of what the inns server is closer to historic light bear, then what we drink now, and caffeine contents are also low.
There are also the huge public baths which can become a gathering spot.
If you haven't heard of the "third place:" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_p...
Anyways. Yeah. The hangouts. Where do the teenager go to teenage? Where's Bob's pint after work with the boys?

Honestly, refined goods and a service economy. Castine aims to have the most expert craftspeople, mages, writers, musicians, anything learnable; and through the colleges manage it. All raw materials are imported.
TGIF or something. I'm going to ruin it by asking you about work. More specifically, the predominant workforce in this place.
Then take it one step further: what's sold elsewhere (including non-physical "goods") and what must be brought in from outside?

The Royal Quarter is dominated by the palace and its gardens, both elegantly woven into the remains of the lava flow that shapes the Eastern Slope of Etara, and are built upon the First Vault of the Royal Armouries, grand halls built in stolen magical steel ingots.
Now for the neat specific buildings! We went over natural landmarks almost two weeks ago, but this time, what about the ones made by the people?
What's their history and importance?

Going to try and make an effort today, might touch on some of the things we skipped yesterday due to poor #MentalHealth. A dozen posts.
Generally though, Castine is a city with low slopping roofs, and buildings either defined by the black stone of the mountain, or white plaster.
We talking ARCHITECTURAL STYLES. 🤩 Materials, methods, all that good stuff that goes into how it looks.
Keep in mind this is for the general "whole." Save your specific fancy structures for tomorrow. The manmade landmarks get their own day.

Castine is divided between the inner, walled city that rises up the slopes of Etara, and the outer rings, separated by the ring of park land that keeps the walls meaningful.
The inner city residents number around 100,000 while a little over twice that live in the outer city.
The aesthetics are for tomorrow! Today's just the overall size and layout. Was it thoroughly planned with grid structures or did it grow informally and organically across the years?
Perhaps some sector or districts talk if this is a tad too simple... 👀

So, there are the old ways, #MythAugust call back there, but probably the most notable set of rituals and beliefs exist around the Final Flame, a direct continuation of the flame from the campfire that Passantra lit the night before her capture and killing by the Inigne.
It's on the card. BUT, I'm also very curious to know if there's something that fills the void if the answer to this is no!
If your #MythAugust is applicable here, drop the hashtag so visitors can go read about it!

Castine has almost everything that Teryte has to offer food-wise being a trade hub that brings in every spice and grain and protein known to human or dragon.
Nice and easy: FOOD.
Food is a HUGE part of culture everywhere. What's your place's Buffalo wings or Philly cheesesteak or (sorry go ahead and insert your regional food of choice)?

So, the best description of Castine is that magic has dominated their technology and things that we pursued, like gunpowder, they have ignored because they have better tools.
But, let's start a thread of 10 and dive into this.
Moving onto the technology or magic drives this place! Are you sci-fi? Fantasy with magic giving access to near-equivalent comforts of the modern day? Alternative Earth that took a completely different tech dev path?
Plus an extra question for thought...

The whole theme of the world is building up what Castine believes so it's hard to sum up neatly, but we will try.
1. Integration
2. Doing what you can for the greater cause
3. That what you do today, not what you did yesterday, or what you promise tomorrow, defines you
(1/5)
This, like your demographics, might be a broad ask; yolo, it's Friday!
Depending on your scope, this could vary a lot, but what defines what makes your people, them?

Castine, like most of the New Federation is bilingual between the common tongue, taught to humans in their early days by Fate, and the common sign, taught by humans to Fate.
On the page these become English and transcribed BSL, with ambitions towards SignWritten editions later.
Nothing clever, it's on the tin. Languages: just one? Several? Did it (or plural) evolve from another language in your world as something mutually intelligible or is it just a regional dialect?

Castine is the most diverse city in Teryte, bringing together not just all groups of the New Federation, but communities of the Krinaale, from the now fallen nation of Dentre, as well as descendants of the refugees from the Inigne north.
Let's get into the people now, and take this as far as you want. Demographics: looking at the ages, genders, orientations, races/species/ethnicities, socioeconomics, education levels, etc...
There's a lot that can be packed into this response if desired!
