It's zero degrees Fahrenheit out there this morning so I thought I'd share the literal dumpster fire that happened in my front yard a couple weeks ago that was in no way a harbinger of anything.

If any journalist wants to talk to a trans man with a PhD in Human Genomics who was trained in labs that studied the evolution of sex, I'm right here

Or just keep platforming Republicans who have a 5th grade understanding of biology so they get more trans people killed, sure 🤷🏻‍♂️

ad hominem

"you were born a boy"
sunk cost fallacy

"you're amab"
false dichotomy

"you have xy chromosomes"
false equivalence

"trans people are mentally ill"
non sequitur

"changing your sex isn't possible"

You learn more about people when you live with them

My mother-in-law sold her old place last week and moves into her new place next week

She has a zero tolerance policy around a whole axis of things like "silence" and "holding still"

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, narrated

Send drugs

All of them

People are not upset because they think every single member of the American elite is a mass rapist. They're upset because elites downplay and excuse mass rape while obscuring their ties to the rapists — *precisely the thing Brooks did in his column.*

Did the spokesperson happen to mention whether Brooks had disclosed this to the people above him at the NYT? Because that’s curiously absent from the haughty statement.

An important result last week: A judge who ran with Democratic support won the seat of a retiring conservative justice on the Kentucky supreme court—and will be the state's first Black woman on the supreme court. boltsmag.org/state-suprem...

The Olivia Nuzzi effect.

RFK wouldn't have acquired the power to kill children around the world without his weird, dumb, amoral fangirl fluffing him and killing stories that might impede his ascent.
The RFK, jr effect.

Irony Is Dead, exhibit #7,398: Turns out this guy is heavily featured in Epstein's photo album. This guy! This old white guy who wrote about how everyone should get over the silly little Epstein thing, left his wife for the 23 years younger research assistant who helped him write THIS book.
Bonus points for the book being entitled “the road to character”

It feels like I've run out of things to say about the Democrats.

When we're almost a full year into this and they're still voting for Trump's nominees, I'm not sure how you can make the case that the party is salvageable.

OH MY GOD THE REVEAL AT THE END
A story I found about Haiti:

In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."

Important thing to remember about Venezuelan oil: their reserves skyrocketed when they decided to start counting something that isn’t oil in any conventional sense and isn’t recoverable unless prices triple, which is unlikely because sharp spikes just result in the Saudis opening the tap wider.
The truly wild thing is this isn’t even true, a shit-ton of their oil reserves on paper are heavy tar sands and every US oil company will take one look at that at $80/bbl and walk away because it isn’t close to economically viable.
Rep. Salazar on Venezuela: "We're about to go in ... we need to go in ... Venezuela for the American oil companies will be a field day"

I notice that he gives chatgpt feminine pronouns, and I hate every possible reason I can think of for why he does.
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

Marco Rubio just straight up looks like a sad divorced man at a Motel 6.

it is a noteworthy shift that Bush et al felt the need to lay like two years of groundwork to justify invading Iraq on WMD grounds and Trump is just saying "Venezuela's oil is our rightful property" and sending in the Navy

Follow me down a rabbit hole I'm calling "doing science is tough and I'm so busy, can't we just make up participants?"

folks please call your congresspeople about this ASAP, this is draconian and evil
Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote on a bill that bans gender-affirming medical care for any transgender person under 18, and threatens any medical professional providing this care to youth with 10 years in prison.

Tell Congress to protect trans youth and vote NO.
Protect Trans Care Now
As wave after wave of extreme measures to criminalize and strip trans people of rights and safety continue, tell Congress to act.

Heartsick from recent events; the shooting here, the Reiner's, and the horrific attack in Australia, where my family is from, on a beach I've spent many happy days. It often feels hollow and rote to comment on it all, as it happens, every time, endlessly. But it matters to commune and bear witness.

In case anyone needed the reminder: Fetterman sucks.
I called his office back when he started breaking ranks on the appointment confirmations and one of his staffers said that it was, and I quote, "you trans peoples own fault for being to whiny".

His support for trans rights, like everything else, was just for show.
