What's really weird is that every hotel in the universe has a section of their website that offers meeting rooms of different sizes.

Mind you, I remember them advertising corporate spaces with internet access, fax machines, and printers that you could plug your laptop into
Can confirm. It took Covid to end this practice. It’s not ancient history.
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.

People hate to think about this. You don't need to get very old to start experiencing a reduction in your physical abilities. And yet, I love watching house shows and I have seen precisely one (1) self built house that considered future needs

Lots of places suited to current disabilities, at least
Chronic back pain *will* happen and it doesn't care if you have a trust fund or live paycheck to paycheck.

It's a unifying experience across the whole population.

I applied this to my (non programming) job, mainly by collecting shortcuts, building macros for the dull stuff, and automating email

They are currently using an LLM to build a macro very similar to one of mine because we all have to do "something with AI" as part of our goals
People used to compete for bragging rights over how much such bullshit grudge work they could automate away in one line.

It was a point of *pride* to go "I turned half my job into 5 lines of perl"

This is a thoroughly delightful video from some linguists in Finland marrying Finnish etymology with Finnish folk dancing and even if you know nothing about any of these things their enthusiasm is contagious

(and it has English subtitles)

This is why it's so important that the stigma be removed, because then teachers can suggest it and parents don't freak out

Our kid's teachers suggested dyslexia (not a surprise, my partner has it); the dyslexia specialist screened for ADHD/autism and suggested we investigate for ADHD
It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

Well that explains why nobody moved into the Roman cities after they left. If people were setting fires this extensive, you would stay well away

(I am not a historian, this is conjecture. People have probably written about this, but it's late and I am not looking it up now)

The fact that this person remains Health Secretary is objectively one of the most significant British political scandals of the post-Covid era. But because he's doing something the media barons like, everyone has decided it's fine.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting says that the British Medical Association, which represents Britain's doctors, is a threat to the NHS. Streeting took a record £225k from private healthcare-related donors in just two years.

This is the UK's Supreme Court dismissing the actual appeals but still deciding that Scotland should change how it handles evidence to favour future appeal cases

Harry Potter's now been used as a blunt tool to murder trans people for so long that no one under 30 remembers Rowling as a writer who is a bigot, but as a bigot who used to be a famous writer.

Someone talking about it sounds like someone organically getting very excited about Jared Leto.

The font would appear to be English 111 Adagio CE, available for the highly presidential sum of just $39.75 USD

Note "The" is not kerned correctly

(see perspective-corrected still for reference)

God I love the comments

They have identified not only the likely font, but also that the kerning is incorrect
Below are two videos showing the White House vs Waldorf Astoria renovations. Can someone knowledgable about the relevant trades breakdown what it took to do each one? What was the process? How much human skill and craftsmanship were involved?

Authors, Beware! There's a firm called "ClaimsHero" doing aggressive social media outreach claiming to
"help" you file to get $ in the Anthropic class action. In fact, it's a bait-and-switch, they are luring authors to sign up with them, then OPTING THEM OUT of the class action so they'll get zilch.

I am a little late to this, but I have also requested my name and face to be removed from @cyclinguk.bsky.social publicity due to the decision to remove trans women from their awards.

Trans women are women, gender is on a spectrum (and I did a genetics degree), and cycling is for everyone. 🏳️‍⚧️🚲❤️
Like many others, I am disappointed and angry about the decision by @cyclinguk.bsky.social to change the eligibility criteria for Women in Cycling 2025 to exclude trans women.

I have requested for my name and face to be removed.

Quick check, if you actually make it as far as talking to the NHS about treatment for a young trans adult, how do they react to people who went private?

I fully expected kiddo to age out of NHS treatment for young adults and end up on a new waitlist, this time for adult treatment

Already signed the petition but flagging this again. Small pressure groups should not be able to overturn the actual users of the pool.
🏊‍♀️The women who swim at Kenwood Ladies Pond have already made their decision.

In 2024, almost 900 members voted to keep their trans-inclusive policy - a policy that has worked peacefully since 2019.

Now, a small campaign group is seeking to overturn that democratic decision through the courts.

There’s no screening for ovarian cancer and it’s really difficult to spot: you can’t squidge your ovaries in the shower to check for lumps. Also it’s very good at masquerading at other things, like IBS and diverticulitis.

Please take a look at this list of symptoms - and share if you can.
