Another favorite image, the Spaghetti Nebula, a complex remnant left when a massive star exploded at the end of its life. We estimate the supernova happened 40,000 years ago and the remnant is now 160 lightyears wide.

In November 1994, the light of a supernova from this majestic spiral reached Earth.

Designated SN 1994ae, this supernova was a member of a special subclass of supernovae called Type Ia, considered by astronomers to be one of the best tools for measuring the expansion rate of the universe.
