This beautiful little cluster of galaxies gives a handy perspective on cosmic distance. The larger galaxy, NGC7331 is 40 million light years away. The smallers ones in the cluster are likely as large but sit around 300-350 million light years away!

Shot from my UK backyard. 🔭

Some more Seestar S30 action from the dark skies of Nusa Lembongan in beautiful Indonesia 🇮🇩. The tiny aperture of the S30 isn't really suited to galaxy work but I thought I'd give it a go. 🔭

Sh2-129 - Flying Bat and Squid Nebula

This was one of the most difficult targets I shot last year. The faint Oiii signal in the Squid Nebula is really more suited to a mono setup and required over 20 hours of integration to really pull the details out using an OSC.🔭

Lagoon and Trifid nebulae.

Been away on the beautiful island of Nusa Lembongan in Indonesia. Dark skies gave me an opportunity to let the Seestar S30 do it's thing. 🔭

NGC 7380 - Wizard Nebula

With the recent weather in Jakarta not allowing any astrophotography, I thought I'd reprocess some data I shot from back in September/October of last year.

Messier 82 - Cigar Galaxy

Shot this again over christmas using the Touptek ATR585C this time. This starburst galaxy is very active and the hydrogen jets give an interesting spectacle.

Veil Nebula and Pickering's Triangle

When a star dies, its outer material gets thrown off and can leave behind beautiful structures in the night sky. These gases can go on to produce new stars. The beauty of rebirth.

Well, the weather here in Jakarta hasn't allowed the Seestars to produce anything yet, so here is a throwback to when I used an APS-C astronomy camera to image the moon through my 8 inch Newtonian 🔭. 126GB of data were used to make this.

A wider look at Messier 31.

Really enjoying using the Samyang 135mm lens. Really gives a different perspective to so many familiar objects in the night sky.

As ever, shot from my backyard in Somerset UK

Messier 27 - Dumbbell Nebula

Another of my favourites. Sitting in the constellation of Vulpecula around 1300 ly away, this was the first 'planetary' nebula discovered by Charles Messier. 🔭

Messier 45 - Pleiades Cluster

A winter favourite here in the northern hemisphere. This beautiful open cluster reveals it's nebulosity when imaged using standard DSO long exposure astrophotography, through a modest telescope 🔭

More Seestar testing. This time the S50 is trying it's hand at lunar. Hitting the RAW button allows the scope to capture .avi video files that can be stacked and processed just like with any other planetary setup.

M42 - Seestar S30 testing.

So what can you do with 30mm of aperture, a tiny planetary camera, all wrapped up in a tiny form factor and controlled by your phone?

I wasn't expecting much from the little @zwoasi Seestar S30 but I'm actually quite impressed. 🔭

2024, my second year doing astrophotography.

It's been a year of progression with some some truly mesmerising moments. Capturing and witnessing the aurora twice from the southern UK being the highlight.

Clear skies to you all in 2025!

One from the back catalogue while I'm on my astro hiatus. 🔭

M81 and M82 - Bodes Galaxy and Cigar Galaxy. The Cigar Galaxy is particularly interesting as it's a starburst galaxy and very active. There is likely tidal interaction between these two causing this.

IC1396 - Elephant's Trunk Nebula

Approx 2400 light years away in the constellation of Cepheus is this beautiful star forming region. Can you see the Elephant's Trunk or do you see another shape or shapes in the gas?

29 hours of integration on a widefield project through September and October. The dusty IFN combined with flares of Hydrogen Alpha made this a challenge to process.
