YES YES YES, FINALLY PEOPLE ARE GETTING IT. A hardcore, energized base wins over people in the middle. Read this entire article. This is why liberals have been losing: they've been listening to quants who obsess over median voter opinion and ignore social dynamics. renewal.org.uk/blog/why-lab...

“My inescapable conclusion has become that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people,” writes Omer Bartov, a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University. “I have been teaching classes on genocide for a quarter of a century. I can recognize one when I see one.”

Enough. We demand rapid, safe, and unimpeded access to starving civilians in Gaza.

We have a plan. We have thousands of trucks of food at the border. Let us in. Let us work.

Weet je nog dat Google hielp om dingen te vinden — en “don’t be evil” slogan was? Vandaag verstoppen ze wat je zoekt onder lagen reclame en rommel. Enshittifcation in actie. Waarom? Omdat het kan. Monopolies moeten niet de beste zijn. Hun verzet tegen regulering gaat niet over liefde voor innovatie

Because in politics, people aren’t really trying to decide how they feel about immigrants. They’re trying to decide which person’s team to join. So if you equivocate and hedge you actually end up sounding worse to a lot of folks, and also lending a lot of credence to the other person’s team.

Heel dit draadje 🧵
I don't think so, because there's strong evidence most MAGA faithful don't actually believe much of what they say. Instead, they believe they're in on the con. It's less "I believe Trump's lies" and more "we must collectively lie, because that is our weapon in the war against liberals."
So I ask this partly because totalizing belief systems are often very brittle. It’s extremely hard to make a single crack, but once that first crack is made they often shatter completely with surprising speed.

Just so people do not draw the wrong conclusions. Like other social democratic parties, the SPD has lost only very few voters to the far right. Today's AfD supporters are mostly not former social democrats. We outline this in detail here, for example: politicscentre.nuffield.ox.ac.uk/media/1awhrc...

Look, Professor Schwarcz is literally one of my all-time favorite professors. But this is the game the far right plays! They make endless bad-faith arguments, insist you engage with them in good faith, and that's how ideas previously once unthinkable creep into the window of possibility.
My key point here is not substantive. I find Trump's order cruel & terrible, but whether it is constitutional is a separate, crucial question. Left-leaning people like me should assume good faith by those suggesting the order is constitutional & engage with their arguments.

As Trump moves forward with his tariff war & "drill drill" obsession, we hear a lot that "Europe must do something". This is wonderful—but what exactly?

So far I have seen just one concrete plan. Now is the time to discuss it
