BABEL x CITY OF BRASS
When a peasant tests into the elitist university of Baghdad, the Mongol invasion leaves her with an impossible choice—safeguard sacred jinn knowledge at the cost of the Caliphate or seize power to save her home but embrace darkness

Not an educator, but if you personally want to get back into reading books, here's what helped me (thread)
Honestly bless any educator doing battle with modern-day attention spans
I think we’re really going to have to do a lot more of this. A massive deprogramming so that people can read more than ten words at a time without anxiety.

AND ALSO

making and sharing memes is not resistance. If your resistance consists of texting memes, you aren't helping. You aren't doing anything but circle jerking and/or stressing put your marginalized friends (if you have any). There are countless Things you can do to ACTUALLY help:
Way too many Liberals think making and sharing AI memes is "resistance".

It's not resistance. It's compliance. Every time you use AI for some entertainment bullshit you're lining the pockets of the oligarchs who support Trump. You are passively supporting Trump with your AI slop.

Do the work.

“It’s just a tool! People used to hate on photoshop too.”

Take away my photoshop, take away my tablets, I can still draw. Take away your plagiarism machine and what are you gonna do? Shout prompts at me?

hey look, a guy who definitely will not be winning the best novel hugo award this year!!

(also truly cannot get over him acknowledging that ai uses a ton of water but then comparing it to things like aluminum production, as if ai use is a thing we need as much as aluminum lmao)

Hey, as a librarian I need to tell you:

Our funding depends on usage.

So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.

It's awkward going, "Hey, I fell off the face of the earth but I have a book coming out tomorrow if you're interested" but...

Hey, I have a book coming out tomorrow. It's a MG fantasy inspired by 1001 Nights with a Blasian heroine. Might be fun? Might distract from the horrors?

Keep in mind that the cuts to Medicaid don’t go into effect until late 2026 conveniently after the midterm elections. Do not be fooled. Vote these ghouls out. Show up and VOTE in the midterms.
