I don't see how you can ignore the history in Quebec City, Halifax, Lunenberg, and other places in the east. I say this as a Toronto person who lives in a city that seems to tear everything down to build another square box condo.
If I were to think of a Canadian city with a lot of historic importance (particularly relative to its current size), my mind goes to Winnipeg. But like a lot of these US cities, it also saw a ton of its urban fabric demolished for parking lots.
