No self-respecting reporter or news organization should misinform the public by referring to government agencies and officials by their pretend names and titles to humor, placate or curry favor with those in power.
This footnote to Illinois and Chicago's lawsuit against Trump is an important reminder:

* There is no Department of War or Secretary of War, which are make-believe names for the actual agencies created by Congress.

This is correct. Sorry for taking 3500 words to say it
tl;dr — is this correct?

1) Post 2008, hedge funds are the source of market liquidity

2) Hedge funds have to unwind their positions/mitigate risk quickly when things go badly; "badly" includes periods of high volatility

4) Trump = volatility = no way to escape a liquidity crisis

Main thing I've learned from a dozen+ years living outside the US:

*The* crucial American advantage is its ability to absorb and empower people from everywhere.

China/ India each have talents of billion-plus people to draw on. Euro much less.

US potentially has talent of the whole world.
When Trump, Vance and Musk argue that immigration is a threat to America's identity, it's important to remember that their problem is not the presence of foreigners in the country, but the presence of foreigners with rights and the ability to assimilate and integrate into American society.

Yeah.

I wonder if Mark Milley, Jack Smith, Liz Cheney, Tanya Chutkin, CQ Brown, James Boasberg, Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Stormy Daniels, E Jean Carroll, Juan Merchan, Mary Trump, etc etc can begin to appreciate the stressfulness and bravery of the head of a prosperous law firm when caving to Trump.
“But no one in the wider world can appreciate how stressful it is to confront an executive order like this until one is directed at you.” --Brad Karp.

Fuck you, you coward.
This letter from Paul Weiss chair Brad Karp makes things worse. Basically offers rationale and justification for everyone else following in Paul Weiss’s footsteps and capitulating to Trump. BLUF: We capitulated and everyone else should as well.

Today EPA chief Lee Zeldin announced that the agency is rolling back 31 regulations.

He's taking aim at mercury, soot, and toxic pollution restrictions, and federal protection of wetlands.

The EPA will also rewrite rules limiting pollution from fossil-fuel plants and cars, and more.

One way to think about this administration is:

Trump's last full year in office was a global pandemic with no known cure that filled hospitals with dying patients and shut down the entire in-person economy.

And firms think the current business environment has *more* uncertainty.
BESPOKE: Most Beige Book mentions of “uncertainty” in, like, ever. 🇺🇸

The site’s “Wall of Receipts” includes a “subset” of contract and lease cancellations.

It's also not "saving" money if Congress passed a law determining what should be spent.

That is annulling the authority of the only actor allowed to tax and given power to determine how taxes are used.
You cannot determine whether you saved or cost money based solely on one side of the ledger.

Example: I saved my household $2K by not paying the mortgage.
