Why do we call these birds "turkeys"?

Add this to the list of "European explorers are bad at naming things". EVERYTHING new was "turkish" because of rising cultural influence of the Turkish (Ottoman) Empire.

Corn: "Turkish wheat"
Pumpkins: "Turkish cucumbers"

And that's how you get Turkey-cock.

“When patients enter hospitals, primary care offices, long-term care residences, and research settings, they rely on registered nurses to deliver expert and humanistic care, uphold their dignity, and allay their fears.

If nursing is not a profession, what is?”

“The move is shortsighted, with little appreciation of its negative downstream effects: It will make it more difficult for nurses with bachelor’s-level training to seek further specialized training in critical areas, such as primary and acute care, oncology, pediatrics, gerontology, and anesthesia”
Proposal to remove advanced nursing from list of ‘professional’ degrees is short-sighted and dangerous
At a time of major workforce shortages, why would the Department of Education make it harder for nurses to obtain advanced training?

“More than 460,000 advanced practice nurses fill the void as primary care specialists for many rural and underserved communities and marginalized populations.

At a time of exponential growth in demand and workforce shortages, why make it harder for nurses to obtain advanced training?”

and after making the mess, throwing it out and rebuilding with an improved mental model is also a critical part of the process. every time I skip this step and decide to keep my first attempt, we suffer for it in the maintenance lifecycle

I can’t start with perfect code because I haven’t actually sorted out what we’re building yet. clear requirements documentation is great, but never catches every edge case or weird in-between state. that only becomes visible through building

making a mess is a critical part of the process

my best code is written in a two-step process:

1. kludge a working prototype together, don’t worry about the code AT ALL. the point is understanding how the requirements function in reality

2. destroy the prototype completely. build the app for real using my better mental model

It seems pretty clear to me that we're going to need something like c2pa to authenticate the chain of editing of real photos / videos. 10 minutes of playing with Nano Banana Pro and just, wow.

Also, Google, can we go back to descriptive product names like "Google Photos" and "Google Docs"?
