Really? This is ridiculous. Didn't they plan to incinerate food stocks?

If a Democratic president cut off one of the red states dependent on federal funding, it would be a political scandal.

But cutting off California -- the single biggest "donor state" in the nation, one that sends in to the fed'l gov't ~$80 billion more than it gets back -- is straight-up theft.
(CNN) — The Trump administration is preparing to cancel a large swath of federal funding for California, an effort which could begin as soon as Friday, according to multiple sources.

Anyone receiving NIH Grant terminations for Diversity Supplements but also add anti-DEI language and you just can’t accept the DEI language..so you can’t accept the termination? What a mess.

Uh oh
NIH websites seem to be down? Like, the whole thing. I’m sure it’s fine.

Can we also call them the Bullies of the United States? Such disgusting behavior today.
This scrum of pot-bellied, sunken-chested betas trying to bully an all-black clad badass Eastern European wasteland survivor while dressed like Men’s Wearhouse mannequins is peak cinema.
GLENN: Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office & you refuse to wear a suit. A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the office.

ZELENSKYY: I will wear a costume after this war will finish. Maybe something like yours. Maybe something better.

We are feeling the downstream effects of this. To get rid of biomedical research funding would be to have a leading agency in health and research fall from it's well earned pedestal.
"Memoli had no choice, he insisted: He was following the direction of three HHS officials—Dorothy Fink, then the acting secretary; Heather Flick Melanson, chief of staff; and Hannah Anderson, deputy chief of staff of policy—who told him, in no uncertain terms, that the pause was to continue..."

Inside the Collapse at the NIH
Administration officials pressured the NIH to avoid clear advice from the agency’s own lawyers to restart grant funding now.

The red states will suffer the most. FAFO.
By the way, the US Department of Education has already cut nearly $2 BILLION in grants for educational research and K-12 teacher training. And they haven't really started yet.

The thing about destroying NIH is NIH’s scale in medical research just dwarfs everyone else.

For ex, in 2023 the American Cancer Society gave out $64.5 million worth of grants. Sounds big, right?
But NIH’s budget was $49 billion. With a B.

Kill NIH and the floor drops out of US science.
HHS might as well be wrapping a wire around a piece of metal and running a current through it and see what happens.

Got word that several NIH employees in a group working on cancer clinical trials got terminated via email this evening.

“The [cancer research] trials will literally not be able to function without us.”

Trump and Musk are killing cancer research. 🧪

“America has the best medical research in the world…” You mean we used to… this administration has tarnished our reputation in every single way.
And Alzheimer’s research, and opioid research, and mental health research, and heart disease research, and kidney research, and cystic fibrosis research… Trump and Musk are killing all of it

We are hearing today that NIH is restarting issuing grant awards — that is, for awards already approved by council, or renewals that normally happen as matter of course, money will start going out.

Caution, though, before we interpret this as a win...

The NIH capping the indirect cost rate (IDC) for grants at 15% can best be described as a direct assault on Universities. It’s such a bureaucratic, innocuous sounding thing that actually means that research universities will be kneecapped. Thousands of employees across the US will lose their jobs.

The new NIH policy for indirect costs going forward is capped at 15%.

This is forever going to alter the science ecosystem, upending and destroying a number of programs at universities across the country.

Well…..NIH just announced catastrophic funding caps for university research. So that’s put everyone in my previous field into panic mode. If you know a scientist, please tell them you appreciate them as they sob quietly or wail loudly b/c it’s baaaaaad.

Research administrators are plugging along, submitting proposals, but at the same time internally panicking about the absolute lack of awards issued and zero to no communication from most agencies (namely NIH). The silence is frightening, we’re worried for our jobs.

🚨RED ALERT for 🧪:

The Trump NIH just gashed indirect costs. This is a direct attack on universities.

“Pursuant to this Supplemental Guidance, there will be a standard rate of 15% across all NIH grants for indirect costs.” 😮

Just a devastating Friday night news dump. #scicomm #academicaky

And yet nothing will happen because the AG in Washington will stop it. There are no people left to prosecute this criminal behavior, only those that are supporting it. What real power do Dems have at this point?
NEW: The American people are turning against Elon Musk. His approval rating has plummeted to -11 from +29 in 2016, per a new Quinnipiac poll.

53% oppose him having a key role in a Trump admin, with just 39% in support—dropping to 36% among independents.

I wholeheartedly feel like this election had interference. What makes it worse is that I have no hope for the next cycle midterm elections- who is to say those aren’t already or will easily fixed in their favor? It feels unstoppable at this point, and there are no more fair and free elections.
