In addition to meeting the immediate needs of fighters (sans kill switches), a joint initiative allows Canada's voice in next-generation features. Much of the development costs fold back into the Canadian economy, rather than wholesale enrichment of an increasingly unfriendly regime.

Well this fucking sucks (and is a fucking travesty): Western Limited has applied to tear down the Credit Foncier building. Reason cited is the fire in adjacent Harvard-owned Gordon Block. #yqrcc

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

It’s poetic justice that the Canada that once abandoned the production of the Avro Arrow because of US pressure will now be making top tier #Gripen fighter jets because of the US. What goes around-comes around. #canada #sweden

Even if Canada is committed to buying the original 8 F-35s, I'd rather the remaining budget go for the Gryphon. While it's not ideal to have the two different platforms, I think the Swedish jet is more bang for the buck, it's NATO compliant, and it's not made in the USA.

False. This is a representative democracy where once elected MPs act in accordance with what they see as the will/interests/values of their constituents. Voters in the next general election have the opportunity to hold the MP to account for their actions.

They think they can appease their enemies and they cannot. This is an era in which fights must be picked. This one has been foisted on the BBC. They should contest it with the all the might they can, all the same.

Voters as a group, like individuals, are not immune to those who will say anything to get your vote. And once in power act in their own political/financial self interest. Case in point. Rural #skpoli votes for grifting #saskparty and are provided with dwindling rural population, and health services.

"This could take down Democrats, too."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

Down with the sex predators, wherever they are.

Everything is Connected.
Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

I really like Bernie Sanders’ elder statesman era.

Unlike too many older politicians who cling to power and perpetuate an outdated political culture, Bernie is actively mentoring the next generation of progressive leaders before he retires.

It’s how it should be.
And it’s working.

I don't want to jump to any hasty conclusions here, but this email exchange from 2011 between Jeff Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell about Donald Trump having spent hours alone with an underage girl does seem like it might be bad for him.

The match between Canada and Sweden is an easy natural fit. My PhD dissertation was a comparison with Sweden. I was struck by the similarities between our culture, politics and economics. The political economy of corporatism in each of our countries makes it so. #cdnpoli
