@whatsie.do
As with all social media, still rarely posting an original thought. Reposting things that make me happy, and following the rest of y’all for the same.
Well, that’s pretty damn cool. Not that anyone “of note” follows me, but I’ll shout from my itty bitty soapbox that this sounds like a grand idea.

Inclusion doesn’t suck.
So here is a new rule I am going to implement, which is that if you reply to one of my comments (particularly one touching on social issues/politics) with a meme/image with text, and you don't also offer alt text describing the contents of the image, I'll hide your comment. Alt text matters, y'all.

these fuckers being able to destroy everything is not a foregone conclusion
In a reversal, the Trump administration restores funding for women's health study
The unexpected elimination of funding for the decades-long research project focused on women's health shocked scientists. They were heartened by the quick restoration of support.

Anyone else struggling to watch @mets.com pregame on @snytv.bsky.social via @mlb.com apps right now?

Here’s hoping someone’s watching their bluesky accounts and has a clue to offer up.

I’ll be there! This is the first time in memory that an author whose work I adore has been (publicly) this close to home. Thanks Northshire for making it happen!
Northshire Bookstore is thrilled to present an evening with Hugo Award-winning author John Scalzi in celebration of his new novel When the Moon Hits Your Eye. This event is this Friday, March 28th at 6pm in the Saratoga Music Hall.

@bsky.app is there a way to view header images on iOS? They’re always behind so much UI, whether it’s the notch, island, profile picture, back arrow, what have you… I’d love to get a better view of the other image users choose to represent themselves.

🎶 Who is to say, old friends
How an old friendship survives?
One day chums
Having a laugh a minute
One day comes
And they're a part of your lives

Happy birthday, old friend. We miss you.

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs
America is over. There is no coming back from this.

If we're lucky maybe we claw back some small-l liberalism for our daily lives. But even that might be too much to hope for.

The rest of the world has to move on from us.

They now know that the American people can't be trusted.

They're right.

And this, in turn, is one of the reasons I’m happy to continue buying John Scalzi’s books. The fact that he’s a great author writing books I enjoy doesn’t suck either… but this is a factor.
I'm gonna remind people that I feel pretty strongly that if you bought one of my ebooks legitimately, then you own the book and however you secure that ownership is fine by me

Shut-up-and-take-my-money-dot-jiff

I usually have to keep an eye out for Boston or NYC to try and go to an author’s events, and it almost never works out. Then, “oh yeah I’ll be practically in your back yard c’mon down.”

Cool. Immediate ticket purchase! 😄

CFPB was founded in 2011 by Obama, and in that time, it has helped recover $19.7 billion in consumer relief.

It’s annual inflation-adjusted budget is $823 million.

In other words, it has earned a return of approx $8b ($19.7b - ($823m*14)) in returns, directly to the taxpayers.

These guys are nuts

I used to work for a Very Big Bank. CFPB complaints got their attention like nothing else. I hated dropping everything to research a complaint but they were always THAT important to the brass.

As a consumer, this disgusts and offends me. This is “fuck the poor” predatory bullshit at its finest.
And just like that, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau homepage, consumerfinance.gov, is being erased. As of January 30, 2025, CFPB enforcement actions resulted in
$19.7 billion in consumer relief.
