“Donald Trump is a man who represents all the things we teach our children not to be. He’s a liar. He’s a thief. He’s a molester. He has no remorse, no shame, no empathy. He has no loyalty to the law, to the Constitution. This man is the lowest character of all.”

Pretty big development here with Bessent telling Trump the investigation into Powell is a ‘mess’.

For his many flaws, Bessent is seen by some as the adult in the room who can sometimes persuade Trump to back off dumb ideas (as he did with the Liberation Day nonsense).

Scoop: Bessent told Trump that investigation of Fed chair creates a "mess"
"The secretary isn't happy, and he let the president know," one source familiar with Bessent's call to Trump told Axios.

The only reason Jerome Powell isn't lowering interest rates is because of Trump's irrational tariff policy.

What Trump is doing threatens the very economic fabric and prosperity of this country.

So let me get this straight. The man who tore down the East Wing of the White House in order to build an oversized ballroom that no one asked for has launched an investigation into Jerome Powell over renovations to the Federal Reserve headquarters.

Did I get that right?

A moderate Democrat with a federal law enforcement background (he was a fed prosecutor) saying on the record that we may need to abolish ICE and start from scratch seems significant.
Some good suggestions from @brianbeutler.bsky.social. I think Rep Daniel Goldman offers a good start at how Dems might approach this going forward here:

Subpoenaing the Fed chair in the middle of a political fight over interest rates is not normal. It’s intimidation. Jerome Powell says he won’t bend—but this sets a dangerous precedent for the independence that keeps inflation in check.

Jerome Powell Won’t Be Intimidated. The Institution He Leads Might Not Be So Lucky.
The Federal Reserve has been served with a grand jury subpoena tied to Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony. Powell says he will not be intimidated—but with his term nearing its end.

Also: Nobel Peace Prizes are ostensibly awarded in recognition of work for the preceding year.

That means the most recent Prize was for activity to promote peace in 2024 - WHEN DONALD TRUMP WAS NOT EVEN PRESIDENT and before when even he says he intervened to to stop some wars.

I urge anyone interested in this story to Google health outcomes in Germany vs the USA.

(TL: DR Germans pay less, get better treatment, live longer and enjoy better lifelong health pretty much across the board and in any cohort you care to name.)

Waaay wrong country to pick on.
