Thrilled to announce my short film “Take and Drink” will be playing at Film Fest Knox in November in the Made in Tennessee category!
There’s a moment in a recent Pluribus episode where two characters eat toast - this moment is so touching and somehow distills the entire show’s philosophy without any dialogue.

people are always saying “they don’t make em like that anymore” and by “that” they just mean “rob reiner moves.”

for those who haven't seen the movie, o'connor has like three scenes you will think are the "one particularly scene" bouie references here. but then you'll come to the actual scene and it hits like a tidal wave.
70% of this i think is that josh o’connor is a marvelous actor who really carries the thematic and emotional core of the story on his shoulders. there is one particular scene that i actually found genuinely moving.

I know there’s a lot going on in the world right now but I feel like we should be talking about this a little bit more than we are

I think @letterboxd.social should have a feature that lets you see other users who have the same 4 recent watches as you. If I could find someone whose recent watches align with mine we would have so much to talk about.

I had an amazing weekend at Film Fest Knox! Met so many great people and it was surreal to see something I wrote and directed on the big screen.

Couldn’t have done it without the hard work of the whole cast and crew, and I’m happy they got to see their work screened at an awesome festival.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

i hate that AI has now caused me to question the authenticity of cute animal videos online, which is my primary use of social media. i don't even know if this baby penguin actually wore a beret to go buy a tiny baguette in paris

AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

You can clip any 30 seconds from MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, and it's certfiably the most sensational, breathtaking 30 seconds of any movie made in the last 2 decades.

As primal as cinema gets.

The 5-Cut Square Edit at the button of this particular sequence of shots is a GOD-TIER piece of editing

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME was beautiful—production-wise, Anderson is untouchable—and moving, in its exploration of faith and nihilism within a predatory Western society. Ridiculous to think anyone still pigeonholes him as "twee," or insists the early stuff is better; he's a generational filmmaker

W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee:

“Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”

I took a Middle Eastern film class a few semesters ago and Jafar Panahi’s TAXI really blew me away.

I was actually late to class that day so I walked in 10 minutes into the film. I was missing some context but I was still enraptured by the vast world he created within the confines of a taxi.

Jafar Panahi has won the Golden Lion at Venice (THE CIRCLE), the Golden Bear at Berlin (TAXI), and now the Palme d'Or at Cannes (IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT).

He is the fourth director to win top honors at all three festivals, after Clouzot, Antonioni, and Altman.
