Something is very wrong with the spiders of Sheffield. The Doctor and friends investigate.
Stephen King on my mind and I'm still utterly baffled and perplexed at the existence of It Chapter Two.

First one, great. Second one, what in the FUCK? The FUCK????????? They just trashtalk Pennywise to death? The hell?

The book is 100% unfilmmable and that proves it.

Coming-of-age is the only genre that Doctor Who has never really tackled, mostly because the genre requires a young central character. I guess Logopolis? Maybe? Adric's arc there feels like one.

Right, that was fun, see you in two weeks for Wake Up Dead Man, which will give me 100% films watched for Rian Johnson and Edgar Wright by the end of the month. Nice that it's getting a multi-day cinema release as it's a tradition I watch Benoit Blanc at the cinema.
Michael Cera is doing A Performance in Running Man and I’m not sure it entirely worked.

Bust mostly, I really liked it. The ending is a bit interesting, Wright clearly trying to honour the book whilst not actually doing it.

So the only way Britain is going to get any arts funding ever is if we did a reverse Reformation and returned to Rome rule.

Got it. Gentlemen, prepare the gunpowder (JOKE, Bluesky mods!)
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

THE SHINING! Film is good, expertly made, but the book is a masterpiece Kubrick just decided to not adapt.
What’s your favorite example of “the book was better.” For me, it’s I Am Legend. The book was incredibly moving and had a lasting impact on me. The movie was… yikes.

Because The Running Man is by Richard Bachman and licensing out an unrelated Stephen King character makes no sense.

Why Isn’t Pennywise in The Running Man? It's more complicated than you might think... bit.ly/4a04Vvk

Very interested in Big Finish possibly tackling Gatiss's Suicide Exhibition (originally meant for Series 4 - replaced with Pompeii) as a Lost Story. I also want to hear Stephen Fry's 1920s story and Tom MacRae's Century House as audios.

I'm curious how well War and Sea works in terms of how consistent the worldbuilding is with regards to how it slots into Doctor Who itself.

Class, Mysterio and Series 10 can't really fit together and it's because there was a gap year that it happened.

Is this the Pertwee story with the most versions now? Broadcast, two omnibuses, novelisation and audio. Crikey!
We’ve had one Sea Devils Omnibus, yes…

But what about SECOND Sea Devils Omnibus…?

Media literacy is at an all time low when the most famous author in the world can have his name plastered onto every poster and people still think it's a remake. Not a problem exclusive to this film. Nobody said Jackson was remaking Bakshi, it's a recent issue.
I think a big problem with The Running Man is that the vast majority of people think of the Arnie film than the actual Stephen King book it was based on.

If Death to the Daleks has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Death to the Daleks has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Death to the Daleks has only one fan then that is me. If Death to the Daleks has no fans, then that means Nicolas Briggs took me out at the same time.
There’s no wrong or right opinions when it comes to Doctor Who. Except if you don’t like Death to the Daleks, in which case you are wrong.

It's an (insane) theory that has a lot of evidence, even when taking spin-offs into account. Bradley Walsh is mostly under makeup as Oddbob so explanation wasn't needed for Graham.

I mean, it didn't need one (energy entity with no clear form), but the Beeb seem to think audiences are fucking stupid
I read someone speculate that the BBC currently have a really stupid rule that actors can only return to Doctor Who as a different character if they're either under prosthetics or explained in-universe, so if Tovey's character is explained as connected to Alonso, the theory sticks (peak of insanity)

I can't tell if War and Sea being exclusively actors who've worked with RTD before being the result of him wanting to always be surrounded by people who'll agree with him, a lack of people wanting to audition, a consequence of the actor's strikes or a combination.

There needs to be a "Hollywood Age Gap" tracker because Anne Hathaway as Tom Holland's mother, are you taking the actual fucking piss? They look like cousins. Dune all over again.

Hollywood sexism and age double standards are *so* common, basically everything does it, impossible to fight against.

I think it's very interesting that the same showrunner who has to clarify Sutekh culturally appropriated a culture that doesn't exist anymore and that the Toymaker canonically was Sinophobic used goblins and even embraced some of the problematic tropes connected with their role in mythology.

The Sea Devils 100% can be cut down and edited into a less repetitive narrative and anyone who says otherwise is just contrarian. This will work better than War Games cut down.

Sack Russell T Davies. Sack Jane Tranter. Sack Phil Collinson. I kinda think we need to push for global secularism that does NOT mean abolish religion just remove it from state politics. Sack Julie Garderner.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I’ve never seen a full episode of Family Guy but funnily enough I’ve seen lots of jokes and cutaway gags in compilations on Youtube and bust a gut every time. But I’m convinced I wouldn’t like the full show.

Interesting how positive Running Man reviews always seem to be more focused on its strengths as an adaptation, not a remake, because it isn’t.

Is the person doing the pounding *also* a Sontaran because if so I think we've found my perfect hear me out.

OK am I being stupid or is this a personal Mandela effect because I distinctly remember the Thijarians in Doctor Who being distorted male voices but they actually have female voice actors? What? It's been a couple of years since I've seen the episode admittedly but this is news to me.

Given Gunn's tendency to reuse actors, are we getting Peter Capaldi as Brainiac? Or would that be *too* similar?
Brainiac will reportedly be the main villain in 'Man of Tomorrow'

Superman and Lex Luthor will team up to fight him
