Mega Man’s original box art secretly got one thing right! Dr. Wily’s castle is the background.

It’s based on a single piece of art (that I’m aware of) from the Rock Man manual/poster, which I also used as reference for the strategy guide.

We get a lot of requests to restock 𝘝𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘱𝘴: 𝘕𝘌𝘚 & 𝘍𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘮. Well, there's a reason why we discontinued it — we are in the process of completely overhauling it into a large format, hardcover with 3x the content, articles, interviews, & more.

For now, here's the table of contents to browse 😎

The cute way that the Super Mario Bros. (NES) manual narratively explains a limitation of the game:
"You can't kill enemies you can't see by sending a [shell] off the screen after them. Why not? Maybe they jump over the enemy when Mario isn't looking...!"

Damnit, @heathercampbell.bsky.social’s Superman game pitch is perfect. Make that game.

“Instantly, you have a quest list that fills up like chat on a YouTube video. And you…create a path, where you save as many people as possible, and the game ends at a certain time.”

Any of you have a fondness for Kid Niki? My brother and I played it together as kids, and put what felt like a ton of time into it, eventually completing and running it back a few more times through. Tough yet rewarding. The plainness and wonkiness never disrupted the experience. It was pure fun.

I just finished this episode. Great conversation on the current and anticipated future state of the Switch 2, from an RPG mindset.

Check it out.
6 months in, Nadia, Eric, and special guest @ash.gvg.io ask the question, "How is the Switch 2 holding up as an RPG machine?” We talk Switch 1 upgrades, system exclusives, and that glint of Pokopia on the horizon

I grew up on Dragon Quest (well, Warrior). They have a simplistic charm and almost meditative quality. Each game is familiar, like coming back to a cozy home.

First impressions of VII: Visually stunning. Charming. Killer intro.

Cover illustration I did for Video Game Maps: NES and Famicom (@retrogamebooks.com) several years ago. I decided to stay away from using known characters, instead focusing on the feeling of old adventure and RPG games.

Hearing @jasonschreier.bsky.social speak to the DQVII changes that made the game too easy, resulting in a more monotonous experience devoid of strategy has me concerned.

Why oh why don’t they let us toggle these big difficulty settings? Eg the thumbs up on a spell and party refreshing before a boss

PCMag mentions Retro Game Books in its review of the Amazon Kindle Scribe -- www.pcmag.com/reviews/amaz...
Amazon Kindle Scribe (2025) Review: Subtle Enhancements, Steep Price
Amazon's 2025 Kindle Scribe ereader features a larger 11-inch screen and a more streamlined design than its predecessor, but it doesn't offer much else new to justify its higher price.
