I would be very happy if a Digimon game being popular and good forces Pokemon to try a bit harder, but I doubt it. They're still distinct enough that I suspect Pokemon can coast on unique brand identity.

Onix only drinks from heavily mineralized streams that run deep underground. Soft water is so unpleasant to it that it never emerges above ground except in the driest of deserts, for fear of being rained upon.
