TL;DR: The Trump administration froze $65M in funds that were used for birth control, STI tests, & cancer screenings (funds do not cover abortions) for low-income patients. It’s a public health disaster.

The administration says they're cutting a trillion in government spending. So far, 2025 spending is $1.89 trillion. It was $1.76 trillion at the same time last year. Spending is on pace to increase by 7.4% from last year.

Over 200,000 records from USAID’s Development Experience Clearinghouse, a publicly available online repository documenting nearly 50 years of USAID’s projects, is gone. Taxpayer property stolen by Musk and his cronies. It’s a crime.

At our local women’s shelter, there is a course offered called “Healthy Relationships”. One of the units focuses on the “Power and Control Wheel” which is a tactic that abusers use to try to assert control.

Withholding funding is clearly economic abuse.

I have experienced a curious mix of feelings while having a significant portion of my life’s work in books and the art of my friends distorted and vandalized by post-literate fascists for the last few years. The feelings right now are uniquely awful.

some advice I got once was, if you’re being carjacked or attempted-kidnapped or otherwise attacked, and the attacker says “[do this thing] now!!”, it’s a good indication they don’t feel physically capable of MAKING you do it

Public acknowledgments make a massive difference in the long term. Thanking the people who helped you and the projects that inspired you allows the whole ecosystem to weave a narrative around the shared commons we're creating together. I'm always happy when OSS projects send flowers to others 💐

Finding the line between "I don't agree but will comply because I value the overall structure" and "I don't agree and will not comply because my morals are more important than the institution" is going to be very important for the next 4 years.
