Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Let's assume, for the moment, that were true (it's not). Wouldn't you want to fund NSF to find out?

14 books, 1 novella, and over 3 weeks later (had a lot of free time), I finally finished The Wheel of Time. I'm kinda bad at expressing my opinions on things, so all I can say is:
Yep. This is a keeper.

Jim Gates. Utterly delightful storyteller, right up until we checked out of the conference hotel as he was about to tell me how general relativity changed federal law. That was January 2020 and I have yet to hear the story. 🎢
Right, enough of James Watson - who's a senior academic you've met who's been an utter delight?
I'll go first: Jocelyn Bell Burnell

This what Republicans want to replace ACA subsidies with. Healthcare is complicated enough and this will bankrupt people even more than we currently see.
Oh the FSAs.
The FSAs where you have to pay and get reimbursed.
So you're paying twice.
And have to keep track of receipts and take time to apply.
And assume you'll get the reimbursement from the federal offices they gutted.
And the reimbursement doesn't include the taxes you paid.
Those FSAs?

And where they increasingly have some shitty AI determine if your charges are really healthcare or not. And the AI is fucking wrong all the time, and you spend untold time having to appeal it before you can even get to the reimbursement part.
Fuck that noise, fully.

I much prefer this map to the winner-takes-all one ( I really try my best to avoid describing places as "red" or "blue").

Every masked ICE person five years ago screamed themselves raw about how they couldn't breathe in the masks to keep people safe. Masks to harm people, meanwhile, they can breathe through very well. Must be some kind of new invention, a hate fabric.
Literally, every member of ICE looks like they've been banned from at least one bar for being creepy.
