Book-loving nerd. Still COVIDing.
I keep selecting and copying specific passages to paste into a quote post, but it's too hard to choose just a sentence or two. Just read the whole thing, y'all! The transformation of the mind through education is a wonderful thing.

Yes.

Yes kids should be wearing masks in schools and being given cleaner air.

Those masks should be comfy and cheap.

Why?

Because kids are getting sick with a disease that we know very little about, and what we do know, is looking problematic.

This is so much simpler and more direct than what I end up saying to people... I'm borrowing Conor's words in post 6 from now on! "ongoing global population infection with SARS-CoV-2 will make the world sicker, through both infection-induced chronic disease and pathogen-pathogen interaction."
1. As a consultant analyst that generally presents to the C-suite of organisations, I am often asked to produce short, concise explanations of both biological and geopolitical risks. Regarding Covid-19, I use the same summary with both C-level clients and friends:

People are acting like the scientific consensus is that getting repeatedly infected by covid is totally fine, when the actual scientific consensus is the exact opposite
July 8, 2025 at 4:48 AM
This is so true. I find myself wondering if the people around me even like their children if they're not willing to take tiny steps to protect them.
Humans do have a need for belonging and many don't want to stand out. I just didn't think those needs would override following science. It especially hurts coming from family members. You'd rather be in line with everyone else than protect your own daughter.

Choosing to wear a mask is a radical act of kindness, resistance and community care.

It’s a simple yet profound way of saying “I care about my health and others”

In this time of rising fascism, survival is resistance. Refusing to treat anyone as expendable is resistance.

Masking is powerful

When you see headlines
about the rise in cases
happening all over the world
you will likely notice
that many of these end by asking:
“What’s driving the surge?”
and while the new variant
is driving the surge,
our refusal to admit
that the pandemic never ended
is riding shotgun.

It still blows my mind that everyone would rather be sick all the time than mask. I haven’t stopped masking and I don’t intend to. We live in a different world now. Your facade of normalcy is cracked with constant airborne illness.

5 years since the start of the pandemic and it is frustrating that we still need to keep repeating: vaccines, masks, tests, and cleaning the air all play roles in reducing transmission.

Wrongly claiming that any of these layers isn’t important is an anti-science stance.

Sample text to write to FDA:
"Make COVID vaccines available for everyone 6+ months of age to protect the community and reduce new variants.

COVID can cause Long COVID, loss IQ, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc and disability.

Children are susceptible and should be vaccinated. buff.ly/RwAQeCJ "

Everyone 6 months and older is eligible to get a flu vaccine.

It makes no sense to restrict Covid vaccines to only people who have specific medical conditions.

The FDA is basing its decisions on politics, not science.

“Covid is only a risk to the vulnerable” narrative was made up by governments to convince you to go back to work. To unmask. To spend money. To think of Covid as a problem only “other” people have to worry about so that you will keep propping up capitalism.

We are ALL vulnerable.

I know an economist
who says
when you hear people talk
about a “covid like” supply shock
it’s a sign
that a recession is coming.

And
I know an epidemiologist
who says
when you hear people talk
about “covid like” colds and allergies
it’s a reminder
that the pandemic never ended.

And the US Department of Labor headquarters building is named after her!
Frances C. Perkins (1880-1965), was the first woman ever to serve in a presidential cabinet.

She served with President F.D. Roosevelt and was the 4th US Secretary of Labor for the Democratic Party.

She was a key figure in the creation of the Social Security Act of 1935.

Everyone that I mention long COVID to has an experience of their own or a story from a friend or family member, but I don't think many of them realize how common it is or how it affects us at a societal level. #LongCovidAwarenessMonth
March is #LongCovidAwarenessMonth. Long Covid is the long-term symptoms, signs and sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. It's one of the most common disease entities on the planet. An estimated 400 millions suffer or have suffered from LC. Pathology in LC can affect basically all organs and body systems
