The only political split that matters - feed everyone on the off chance one person is hungry, or feed no one on the off chance someone undeserving might get fed

This is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

I’ll never tire of repeating my belief that public libraries can embody the democratic ideal more broadly and fully than any other public institution. When a kid gets a library card, they receive civic standing. Crucially, in my network, full patron privacy. Help us defend this. 📚
I’m a public librarian in a degenerating democracy, and I am pleading: Care about your library. Use it. See what programs and events it offers. And pay attention to its governing body. See who the trustees are. Consider running yourself. Libraries will need all the community support they can get. 📚

I have been thinking today that the key to keeping sane for the next four years is going to be paying zero attention to the daily outrage circus, while focusing relentlessly on the actual substance of what is happening, what can be done now and how to build for what comes after.
wrote this in 2020 and have been thinking about it again recently: how do we maintain intellectual life when the main character of politics, whom all attention accretes around, is, fundamentally, both very horrible and very boring? www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot (as very much not an expert on anything).
Do business leaders *really* want the chaos of a complete overhaul of modern society? I’d assume they’re signing up for “status quo with lower taxes” and not “the handmaids can’t have their own credit cards”
One thing I think is being a little underrated as a potential chaos agent in the next few years is how shaky the Trumpist coalition is. There are at least three different coalitions underneath the umbrella, and they rarely work well together. Infighting might just save us yet.

Public libraries remain one of the best things ever about this country. Support your local libraries, friends.
This went great! VERY engaged audience!

I love doing library events.
