Since the decimation of the federal workforce last spring, an incredibly generous group of colleagues have been offering free career advising for former feds.

I just had a session this week and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Happy publication day to possibly my favorite book chapter I've ever written, "Stop Lying to Yourself: Collective Delusion and Digital Humanities Grant Funding"!

Ever notice how once you get one grant, you end up looking for another & do things you never actually wanted? Yeah. It's about that. 🪰🕷️🐴

Tomorrow is "321 Plays for Trans Futures" in Chicago, so here's my contribution, part of the evening "Futures" segment. They're words I had to write before I could have a prayer of focusing on syllabus prep, on March 28, 2024. It's about the first time all the discourse of bodies made sense to me.

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

Meant to show humanities research uses for high-performance computing
UVA people, please join us tomorrow at 11am in The Scholar’s Lab where I’ll be talking with Professor Adrienne Ghaly about our use of LLM’s to look for biodiversity in nineteenth century prose fiction. There’s lunch and we’re looking for feedback on our work.

this is *precisely* the energy our vichy admin has brought to every statement, every meeting, every question they even deign to consider: they view us as children who need to shut up already & let the grownups deal with the big scary world by abjectly surrendering to it
From the beginning, we told UC administrators we needed to fight. They treated us like children, too starry-eyed and naive to grasp the reality of our new regime.

@quinnanya.me is such a treasure of a friend. Can't thank them enough for the time and energy they gave to something I shared so sheepishly. And live slacking with them during their long commute was such a pleasure.
Wrote a few words about virtually hanging out with @walshbr.bsky.social this week, by means of reading his book draft and sending him my reactions as I was reading. It really was one of the best parts of this week and you should try it with a friend.
