This fellowship grew from @walshbr.bsky.social running a pilot of a teaching exercise in his book on speculative budgeting w/staff+students; he & @spw4s.bsky.social built on student suggestions for funding faculty+PhD student teams, & UVA Data Analytics Ctr's interest in outreach to UVA humanists

So many people at this in @scholarslab.bsky.social that I'm sitting on the ground 😂 Work-in-progress event for new joint IATH+SLab/DH Center+DAC fellowship, which supports faculty+grad student team working w/us+Data Analytics Ctr. Meant to show humanities research uses for high-performance computing
UVA people, please join us tomorrow at 11am in The Scholar’s Lab where I’ll be talking with Professor Adrienne Ghaly about our use of LLM’s to look for biodiversity in nineteenth century prose fiction. There’s lunch and we’re looking for feedback on our work.

this is *precisely* the energy our vichy admin has brought to every statement, every meeting, every question they even deign to consider: they view us as children who need to shut up already & let the grownups deal with the big scary world by abjectly surrendering to it
From the beginning, we told UC administrators we needed to fight. They treated us like children, too starry-eyed and naive to grasp the reality of our new regime.

@quinnanya.me is such a treasure of a friend. Can't thank them enough for the time and energy they gave to something I shared so sheepishly. And live slacking with them during their long commute was such a pleasure.
Wrote a few words about virtually hanging out with @walshbr.bsky.social this week, by means of reading his book draft and sending him my reactions as I was reading. It really was one of the best parts of this week and you should try it with a friend.

(Also, his book is ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥!!)

In the @scholarslab.bsky.social, @literaturegeek.bsky.social and I try to practice what we call "gossip for good," performative and outspoken gratitude and appreciation to people's faces and also behind their back. Hear someone praising the work of someone else? They should know about.

I was just telling a friend I have been deeply touched by friend-colleagues from my “home” fields recently sharing ways in which they respect/look to my work & the way I move in the world.

As someone who too-often thinks about what I have failed to do or be, this has meant a great deal.
The two inspirations mentioned briefly in the post here are @literaturegeek.bsky.social and @friede.bsky.social. So much gratitude for their examples, their work, and their humanity.
